Thomas Mitchell Park is a hidden gem amongst the vast fields of Iowa. There are a multitude of walking paths that wind about the park through forested areas of mature oaks, Camp Creek twists its way through the park adding a beautiful dynamic to the park. There is a large pond on the upper part of the park with a walking trail around it, rest/viewing benches in various spots, and two small docks. The main parking area has a large covered picnic/grilling area and a large open grassy field for those who enjoy throwing around a football or playing badminton or volleyball. The next parking area also has a large covered Pavillion area, a restroom building, and a playground equipment area that I wish I could've played on when I was a kid. It is simply awesome!! The last parking area is by their rough campsite area. It has around 30 spots for camping that each have their own fire pit and picnic table, there is also a small basketball area, and a restroom building, all nestled into a little hollow like area that is outlined by Camp Creek. Truly a delightful place to spend an evening outdoors!! All in all, a most wonderful Park and one of my favorites that I have visited! I would HIGHLY recommend visiting this park to any family that's looking for an awesome...

We stayed at the campgrounds for 2 weeks visiting family. It was a nice campground where everyone adhered to a 10pm quiet time until the 2nd week when several families moved in who stayed up at all hours partying loudly with barking dogs as well. We got NO SLEEP AT ALL!! There are no water hook ups and only one water hydrant that was 200 ft. away from our campsite. The campgrounds host was the most unfriendly that we have ever encountered in all our years camping & did nothing about the folks that did not adhere to the 10pm quiet time. There are no bike trails and only a short walking trail. Someone should replace the campgrounds host and update the campsites or at least install more...

This is one of the prettiest little parks I've been to in Central Iowa. However, I have a couple of complaints. They built a graveled path to their two fishing piers, however, you are not allowed to use a motorized vesicle on it. I have COPD, I cannot walk that far, so when the review below me says they are accessible, they are not, this was very disappointing as we came primarily to fish. My second complaint is that any of these "My Parks" in Iowa, even though they have a number to call, and the guy lives right there, they never answer their phone nor call you back. Very, very poor...

A nice county park with some camping sites, a small lake with fishing, walking trails, picnic shelters, and a brand new beautiful playground for kids. We live nearby, and this is our go-to park for getting outdoors and away from civilization for some fresh air, greenery, and peaceful country views. The walking trails in the wooded area are beautiful and slightly hilly. The trail wraps around the small lake with open field views. The photos posted with this review were taken in early May, so there were May apples and wildflowers blooming in the woods.

Terrific and clean park for picnicking, fishing, running trails, mushrooms hunting, and spending an afternoon with family and friends. Outstanding facility, clean restrooms, and ample camping area. The trails are clean and perfect place to hike and run. We found a variety of mushrooms. A great place to bring the kids to hunt mushrooms. We took a one pound and left tons of mushrooms for others to enjoy. Highly recommending this park.

You will need to drive for a couple miles or so from exit but it’s well worth it. Just pass the women prison and enjoy the park’s camping 🏕️ site and decent shelters. Nothing historic but okay to camp for few days. Not ideal for RVs but just camping ⛺️ for couple days. Bathrooms got showers 🚿 and all. I loved the natural light. Wasn’t busy mid week in June.
