Did my most recent drive on Sunday, August 9, and it was wonderful. I was surprised to see so much water in the slough, since it has been so dry. Lots of bird life to be seen, but my favorites are the pelicans standing on the sandbar in the Smith Pool. I took a lot of pictures and they are lovely . Hope to drive through at least once more between now and Sept. 20, when the Auto...

I've visited this refuge twice and had a great time both visits. I highly suggest you visit when the auto tour is open, but that doesn't happen very often...early May, Aug. 1-Sept. 20, and early Oct. The auto tour gets you up close to the wetlands. Plenty...

Beautiful area, worth the drive. Only wish there was a bathroom, not sure if there is one in the building when it's open. I didnt see any hours, not to say they arent posted somewhere, I may have...

I've visited this refuge twice and had a great time both visits. I highly suggest you visit when the auto tour is open, but that doesn't happen very often...early May, Aug. 1-Sept. 20, and early Oct. The auto tour gets you up close to the wetlands. Plenty of wildlife !
