If you stay left at the first fork, the trail goes on for a bit without much elevation gain. It's a good warm up for trek up the rest of the trail to the top which gets steeper and great for exercise. The entire hike is surrounded by trees. There isn't much for views but it at least keeps you shaded so if you're going on a hot day, it won't be so bad. On the way back down the trail is a little narrow in some areas but not bad.    Read morePARKING: If you are trying to find a place to park because you've realized the street by the trailhead has no parking, go back down to Licorice Fern Trail Crossing and park at the trailhead there. That trail is about eight tenths of a mile and will meet up with Cougar Mountain Indian Trail. When you get to the top and see a bench, cross the road and there is a trail to the left.
