My family would go to Alan Seeger for picnics in my youth and to fish for Brook trout. In the 1970's we took my maternal grandparents, uncle and his family from the U.K. for a picnic there and my aunt wouldn't get out of the car because we saw a nice sized Rattlesnake on the way there and then a few miles after that my father saw a Black snake, stoped the car and caught it. She said "The entire bloody country is covered in snakes"!😁😂 Fifty years ago there was still lots of old growth forest alive but sadly an invasive beatle has killed many of the huge Hemlock trees that would amaze me as a child. The rhododendron was so thick that I could go through parts of the forest and never touch the ground for what felt like miles as a child. Sadly another area losing it's beauty...
