Applegate Lake — Attraction in Jacksonville

It's a big lake that is a waste of the drive unless you only want to swim or fish! This lake is huge but has a speed limit of 10mph for all of the lake. The old man on the porch was short and rude! He made my party of people feel as if it was HIS lake and he really did not want people! They need a new younger staff and to open the lake for high speeds and allow boats for towing... it is a big waste of a lake. Don't know how this place makes any money to even keep the power on it's over 100° outside and a weekend and there is was only one sale boat, 8 swimmers, and 4 old rude self centered people sitting on the deck at the store pushing people to not be there. NOT WORTH THE DRIVE OUT TO THIS LAKE. AND IF YOU DO DON'T BRING A BOAT UNLESS IT'S A ROW BOAT! I hope everyone reading this signs the petition to allow higher speeds and tow boating! Sign it and make the lake...

My husband and I went here a few months ago on a summer trip. The lake took a long while to get to, human noise/dog barks travelled really well, and there weren't any garbage cans for poo bags. Great place to swim, kayak, paddle board, bbq, camp, and relax. Plenty of space between all the bridges. You can always find a spot without people but make sure to bring shade! Great place to explore in and out of the car.
