Forty Getty Park RV Campground seems like a great location, with a good bit of history and a lot to offer to anyone visiting, which is why I was eager to visit it this past weekend while traveling through the Jamestown area of Rhode Island. I'd still call it a great place to visit, just not the best to attempt to stay at overnight or camp at. That is something else entirely in this case.
THE GOOD👍 Again, an absolutely gorgeous location on the shores of Jamestown😍 that being the park, NOT the campgrounds. The campground itself🏕 and particularly the⛺️ tenting section are pretty far removed from any of that and the water itself in reality.
THE Bad. In actuality, the campground looks to be a complete afterthought. More like, What should we do with this little grassy area next to the RV park?... oh maybe that can be for tents! Or,. Where the hell are we going to fit some tents⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️around here? Oh, I know, how about over on the hill by the bathrooms? 🚻 next to the RV park fencing? Oh yeah, that sounds Perfect👍
The Ugly There's no Ugly. The people seem nice; the park is great and everyone working there was polite and courteous. It's just a shame they haven't given any real consideration to the camping section or provided a real space for campers to come enjoy the area. What you're left with is a grassy knoll with a bunch of tent sites tightly clustered together right next to or on top of the RV park in a way that didn't seem...
Read moreI will start off as I have been trying for the last two summers to get a tent site here and my lack of planning last year mid winter is the cause for me not getting a site. This place is beautiful and a fishermans heaven if you like fishing and camping but I recommend booking mid winter as it reservations fill by spring for the summer. The lower tent sites I prefer as some of the reviews mention the seasonal RV campers complaining about their fires and late night conversation/partying at the upper tent sites which you don't have to deal with at the lower sites. The upper tent sites you have no tree cover and are in direct sunlight and exposed to the wind which could be nice in the hot summer nights but not in the day. The parking at the upper sites is a little more distant from the tent area as you cannot park near your tent but in designated areas on the upper and lower sites. The lower sites you can park right in front of the camping area which allows for closer access to your vehicle so you are not lugging gear like a mule and also plenty of tree cover to protect from sun and rain and more privacy, also porta pottys right out front and close to the main gate and dumpsters although a little walk to the pavillion and showers. Overall a beautiful place to camp and the fishing pier is great to catch Striped Bass, Flounder, Scup and Occasional Tautog during the right seasons/times. I had a blast here and will definately...
Read moreIf they think you're not from there they'll treat you differently they'll actually even make stuff up just so you don't go back again and they're not shy about making stuff at all.... So if you're not part of their little clique of friends and acquaintances forget about enjoying yourself at this place because it's not going to happen there's plenty of places that are free to go and much more worth it..... The old woman that works the gate is real nice but the guy that likes to call himself a park ranger forget it he doesn't mind making stuff up like everybody else.... There's no playground the bathrooms are horrible the only picnic area supposedly is for tent site's.... If you park wrong they won't tell you at all.... And there's no posted signs to properly Park.... First place I can say enter at your...
