We visited the Museum of Missouri Military History on a Saturday morning in June, right when it opened. There were only about 8 people there, so we had plenty of space to explore and take our time checking out the tanks, planes, and exhibits. The museum is located on the Missouri national guard base, so once you cross the railroad tracks, just continue straight until you reach a booth. Let them know you’re there for the museum. They’ll check your driver’s license and wave you through. There’s a lot to see packed into a smaller space: military uniforms, weapons, historical displays, and even a helicopter that flew in the Vietnam War, complete with patched bullet holes. We were able to go inside one of the tanks, which was really cool! The carrier plane wasn’t open because it was too hot. When it’s 90+ degrees, the inside becomes like an oven and it’s unsafe for people to go in. So if you want that part of the experience, try going on a cooler day. It takes about an hour to fully explore everything, and it’s definitely a case of quality over quantity. There’s plenty of free parking, and the whole museum is completely free! It’s a great stop for history buffs, reluctant spouses who end up loving it, and curious kids alike.

If you are at all interested in Missouri history or military history, you must go here. The museum has a lot in a smaller space, and they are continually adding to their collection. Nice staff! Just about ten minutes from downtown Jefferson City. The building is part of a complex of federal buildings, so they may check your ID at the gate. Takes about one minute.

Great high quality exhibits! Very interesting. Perfect way to spend a couple of hours. It was super hot the day we visited so having the A/C in the in-door exhibits along on with the bigger out-door ones worked out perfectly. It is inside the National Guard Base so you do have to go through security at the guard station but they were very friendly and helpful.

This is a great local museum with very passionate and helpful staff.

First, driving in is kind of like Dorothy trying to see the Wizard. You don't need red shoes but you do need an appointment to get past the guard gate! The museum is located on Missouri National Guard property.

The museum is somewhat small but makes up for that with personal stories of the Missouri soldiers from the militia to recent times.

We took a Boy Scout group of several hundred kids there as part of a trip to Jefferson City. The staff were very accommodating and provided very personal attention the whole time. They even extended the hours just for our group!

If your family appreciates the National Guard,...

I was unsure I was in the right place because it has a gate and a security guard. Must have valid ID to enter and the gate needs to be lifted to enter. Ive never been to a museum like that. Despite the oddity for me, it was a very pleasant experience. Starting with the gaurd. He was absolutely wonderful and had some insight to the museum. After we entered, myself & my kids where blown away with the military vehicles they have on display. One of them you were able to walk into. A picture which I have posted! On the inside it is very well kept and the the displays where clean, easy to see through, had so much historical memories that left us in awe the whole time. We will...
