I am very disappointed in the foresight of the park planning committee and the design and layout of the park. Point of contention being, the parking areas and there physical distance from from certain activity areas. I am a senior and handicapped. I enjoy taking my partner, a Golden Retriever, to facilities where she can enjoy swimming. I throw floating items in the water and she retrieves them to me. At the Prairie Oaks Park, the distance from the parking area to the pond reserved for swimming your pet, is too far for me to walk. While enjoying an afternoon with my pet I was approached by a Park Ranger. I was swimming my dog at the pond nearest to one of the parking areas. We were ordered to leave the area or walk the much greater distance to the designated pet swimming pond. I explained to him that I was handicapped and walking that greater distance would be extremely difficult for me. He cited the rules and the fact that my dog was off-leasch, because she was swimming, and ordered compliance. I tried to argue that we were not bothering anyone, because my dog is obedient trained and there was literally no one else at the park, at that day and time. There was to be no bending of the rules, with this officer, dispite my physical challenges. So, I question why, with the many acres of available park land, can't handicapped parking areas be provided closer to the various recreational activities that are provided to the non-handicapped. We, very much enjoy the same activities, but need to go about doing them in a...
Read moreI love this place to death. Don't get me wrong. They have beautiful landscape, great walking trails, sturdy bridges, bridle trails, picnic areas, a dog beach, and playgrounds for the kids, along with many seasonal activities. This is my favorite metro park here in Columbus, but my one biggest complaint: they only have one water fountain. And it's all the way out at the park office, close to West Jefferson, so if you're closer to Hilliard-side of the park, you're in for a long hike, or you better have brought your own drink. I hiked all the way out there just to get water once, and the working men there were so friendly and gave me a couple water bottles. I don't fault them for that. They are awesome human beings, but the park can surely do better and have more water fountains throughout the park. Apart from that, I wouldn't change a thing. This is the most natural, least developed metro park in the city, which makes for a...
Read moreSo realistic, all the trees really looked like trees, and the water felt wet. I didn't have the resolution all the way up... or maybe I just didn't have my contacts in, can't remember, but the park still looked great (not quite 4k, but I hear they are working on an update). There's no blue light filter so don't look at the big ball of light in the sky or you might experience some slight visual discomfort.** Probably can't touch the bottom if you decide to take a swim since 50ft of anchor line couldn't touch until about 10ft from shore when I took my kayak, but I don't know how tall you are so try if you must. Great park to just go relax at since there are so many things you can do there
**For everyone that doesn't understand what going outside is like anymore because if you don't play every game you bought last steam sale, then you can't justify buying +10 games next time, this is the...
