Whoever wrote a negative review, they LIE. This is one of the best experiences we had. YES, it's closed during the cold season. Some wildlife animals don't do well when it's cold. People really need to understand that safaris and even zoos won't be available. Please follow them on facebook. That's where I saw that they do private tours. I went with my family on 04/13/2023 noon. We did arrive early, but Lynn was very nice and let us be in the parking lot while they finished setting up. My daughter's, son in law & myself had an amazing time. I hope we are back once it's open to the public. Again, our private tour was the best experience. We got to feed the kangaroos, goats (brush as well, only goats). I carry cupcake, which she's the small goat. Eddy (goat) was my daughter's favorite. Velma (goat) She was super shy, but once she feels comfortable, she is really nice. The troublemaker lol (white goat) Lynn will only know who we are talking about. He is like a kid who teaches everyone to open gates, lol. Mocha (camel) is really patient with kids & fun fact he loves beard, lol. Bob (turkey) was very welcoming, he follow us on the tour & kept showing off his beautiful feathers. He loves the attention, lol. Crackerjack (white donkey) he was very shy but really sweet. Zebras look beautiful in person. Another fun fact I didn't know zebras & donkeys would be a thing (meaning the combination of both). We got to see horses as well. We tried to remember every single name of the animals, but they are too many š. We cherish this moment. Thank you for this beautiful experience. All animals are well taken care of. We learn so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were the first customers at the Safari Petting Zoo & Sanctuary in Lackawanna County on Saturday 5/17/25 which was opening day for the Sanctuary and we will be back. We were greeted by Lynn who gave us an overview of the Sanctuary and Leeann who provided additional details once we checked in at the gift shop. The Sanctuary was perfect for our granddaughters who are 3 and 6 years old to roam around and see animals up close. Our granddaughters loved petting the pony named Chewy who had a rainbow mane and tail that our granddaughterās thought was very cool. Kristin went out of her way to get Chewy set up as a unicorn and took a few family pictures for us. Kristin and the entire staff were very friendly and helpful to teach us about the various animals at the Sanctuary. We had never seen a porcupine up close and Kristin showed us the two at the zoo and educated us about them which was very interesting. The alpacas, zedonk, that is a cross between a donkey and a zebra, goats and camels were very friendly and our granddaughters really got a kick out of petting them. If you are looking for a fun place for your kids to have an enjoyable and educational close-up encounter with friendly animals you need to go to the Safari Petting Zoo & Sanctuary. You wonāt be disappointed. Like I said before we will be back and Iām guessing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited the petting zoo on June 29 and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Itās not a huge placeāyou can comfortably see most of the animals in about an hourābut what it lacks in size, it absolutely makes up for in charm and quality interaction.
One of the highlights for me was getting to meet Lola the teguāa gentle, beautiful reptile who stole the show. I also had a great time feeding the tortoises, which was a fun and surprisingly relaxing experience.
The variety of animals was impressive: llamas, camels, kangaroos, peacocks, horses, donkeys, porcupines, and plenty more. Each enclosure was well-maintained, and the animals looked happy and healthy.
What really stood out was the staff. They were not only friendly, but genuinely enthusiastic about the animals. They took the time to share fun facts and stories, and it was clear they truly cared about the animals in their care.
This place is perfect for a short, enjoyable visitāespecially for animal lovers or families with kids. If I get the chance, Iāll definitely go back....
