It is clean and scenic with a pond, section of trees and a garden. But it's not really a full park and not a true nature preserve. As a "park" it features one large paved trail with signs that say you can only walk one direction with no bikes or roller skates allowed. Oh and there's a playground in the back. People are not allowed to take advantage of the huge lawns covering the "park" to play frisbee, bring pets, have picnics or do any other park like activities on. I think of it as "The Park of Rules" or 1984 when I go there. As a "nature preserve" why do they maintain a number of huge rolling lawns? Lawns are one of the most destructive features to nature and biodiversity. They conflict harshly with a natural ecosystem. Lawns interrupt the nature web by eliminating food and places to hide for pollenating insects and small herbivores. In reducing the number of insects lawns reduce the amount of food for birds and attract less of them. In reducing birds... you can understand the direction it goes from there. Lawns are like big empty parking lots for nature offering not much. In addition to being discouraging to wildlife, think of the gas and chemicals it takes to maintain lawns the size of what Perrin Park has. This is a lot of pollution created every summer and money to pay employees to maintain the useless lawns. I can't help but wonder since it's not really a park or a nature preserve, if they offer just enough public access to get some kind of tax break or other incentive as a park and/or do just enough to meet the Indiana DNR requirements to be a nature preserve to receive whatever benefit this offers. With all the rules and places you can't go and activities you're not allowed to do, it offers a very cozy feeling. But a paved trail is better than no "park" at all, so drop what you're doing and get to this place of business as soon as you can to enjoy looking at but not touching a lot of grass. PS once while we were there we had a guy who worked at the "park" tell us about new cameras they installed all around the "park" for security and then proceeded to pop out wherever we were in the "park" on his golf cart the entire time we were there. It was either a coincidence or he used those very same cameras to follow us all around the "park". He even pulled up next to us on his golf cart as we exited to ask how we enjoyed the "park" today. ...Much better if we would not have been stalked sir.
Get it together Perrin "Park". Become...
Read moreI visited this park with my family to celebrate my younger siblings birthdays. We were about to have a water gun fight when my friend and I went to the bathrooms to fill up the water guns and use the restroom. I was in the process of going to the restroom, using both of my hands to hold the curtain closed to make sure that I had privacy, when a women working ran in and violently ripped open the curtain. She immediately backed away apologizing saying she thought I was a boy in the restroom. I felt completely violated and was shocked that she felt that she had the authority to rip open the stall curtain. After we left the bathrooms she came up to us on her golf cart and tried to justify her actions. When I didn’t accept her apology she tried to tell me to leave the park, but didn’t actually enforce it in any way. My family continued to celebrate while my moms boyfriend went to speak to her. The first time the woman sped off, completely ignoring him saying “ma’am.” The second time she spoke to him and lied, saying that she was going in to lock the bathrooms and was making sure no one was in there. When she had clearly seen my friend at the sink and made no attempt to ask if anyone was in the stall. It wasn’t until the police were mentioned that she actually attempted to be remorseful. I am stunned and cannot help but think of what it would have been like had she done this to my younger sister or another kid. It is absolutely disgusting and if you choose to take your family to this park I sincerely hope you make sure that this woman stays...
Read moreWent here with a group of about 25 people. Some of our group, mostly children, were playing Pokémon Go on their cell phones. We were there for approximately 15 minutes before a staff member drove up on a golf cart and asked us if we were "out catching Pokémon." Those who were playing answered "Yes." This staff member then said that the owner of the park does not allow Pokémon Go in their park and ordered us to leave grounds. I said, "So the owner doesn't want people to come out and visit their park if they're playing a game? And now you are kicking us all out because the kids were playing Pokémon? She said, "Yes. That's our policy and we don't allow that here." She then asked if we knew of "anyone else that's playing Pokémon" so that she could make them leave as well. As we begrudgingly went back to our vehicles, this same staff member was observed driving around, interrupting people's picnics because they visibly had their cell phones out, checking to see if she needed to kick them out as well for playing Pokémon Go. This was our first, and assuredly last, time...
