After reading many glowing and positive reviews of this campground, we decided to check it out on a five-day camping trip. The campground is small, with nice level sites on cement pads. All sites are full hook up. It's a great place for a quick overnight stay on your way elsewhere as it is only about 3 miles off I-75, but I just don't see it as a destination. There's just not much to do there. There are some paved walking trails around a small pond, paddle board and kayaks are available for rent, and there's a camp store that sells firewood, souvenirs, ice cream etc. (although they were closed several days while we were there due to COVID-19). There's also a playground. The shower/bathrooms were open part of the time due to COVID, but they were very clean and nice, modern compared to most State Park restrooms. On several days We were there the local young populace enjoyed cruising their cars and trucks - all which seem to be missing a muffler - through the campground...there's a road that crosses directly through the campground that apparently is used by bored teens to get from one part of the Jellico area to another. There's also a local road (London Ave) that parallels the campground which is used to race ATVs and loud, mufferless, cars up and down as part of the local evening entertainment. There is no privacy between sites in the campground, and there seemed to always be a barking dog belonging to some oblivious owner. If you like sitting around in a sterile, manicured city park-like setting, taking brief walks on blacktopped paths then this...
Read moreThis is a wonderful small state park right on TN and KY border off I-75. There are about 50 RV sites With 50 amp power, water and sewer connections at each concrete parking pad. The park is impeccably maintained with lush green grass between sites providing plenty of room for kids to play. The staff is very friendly and helpful ensuring that everyone has an enjoyable stay. Their attention to details continuously ensure that this park is truly a jewel. There are many, many things to do in the park, a basketball court, a disk golf course, a large pond with pedal boats, and row boats for rent, well maintained play equipment, many trails, fishing and even a bicycle repair station adjacent to the camp store, plus local seasonal activities for all to enjoy.
This beautiful state park was once an abandoned coal strip mine that the state and local individuals worked together to transition it to one of the nicest state parks we have ever stayed in (and we've been to all 50 states). There is rich history here, which is evident in the pride and care that the park staff provide everyday to the park and to their customers.
More emphasis should be given to the work that went into the design process used to reclaim this land and turn it into such a beautiful and useful state park. The people of Jellico should be rightly proud of their efforts and I only wish other states would follow suit and reclaim blighted properties into useful places like Indian...
Read moreThe GOOD: Very nice setting in a valley surrounded by the hills of East TN. Sites have nice concrete pads with full hookups Park staff are super nice and helpful The park is clean and well kept. Not far from the interstate and is big rig friendly except for a pretty sharp turn off the main drag in Jellico. The BAD: You feel like you are camping in a city park, and the picnic tables and fire pits are scattered around in odd places. Your neighbors are likely to be eating supper right next to your camper...not much privacy Not much shade at the campsites. There's not a ton to do in the park, but there are things within an hour's drive OVERALL: You can experience all the park has to offer in a day, but could spend a couple more days seeing other attractions with a fairly short drive. It's in a really pretty, relaxing spot and would be a good place for a short stopover while on a...
