Excellent place to ski! The trails are well groomed for both skate and classic (tracked) skiing. The train is fairly easy with nothing too hilly. The steeper hills have bypasses so you can avoid them. Trail passes on the weekends (Friday-Sunday) are only $10. Inside the conversion is now than enough room to spread out all your gear. There is also a do-it-yourself waxing station. Homemade soups are available for lunch, along with various drinks, chips, and hot beverages. All the food is good and very cheap. The trails are part of Laurel Ridge State Park and seem to have fairly consistent snow. They meander through wooded areas, so the wind is minimal. The drive in is also not difficult, and only takes about an hour from Morgantown. I would recommend going here if you are a beginner, as the trails are easy. It's a great place if you are more...

Stayed as volunteer for Camp PARC, which is just an awesome week of shenanigans for everyone involved. Camp eight is a group of bunkhouses, a dining hall and kitchen, shower and toilet facility and a meeting hall. The bunk houses (cabins) sleep about a dozen campers. They have been around awhile, probably a mid or early 20th century build, but they are still in reasonable shape. The site has a large blacktop rec area with Basketball hoops, and several large open fields suitable for team sports, tents or other activities. The park has a pond and streams good for fishing, and a swimming area as well. Lots of woods to explore. It's...

Beautiful! The trails are well kept and they are so natural. The shelters are awesome to spend the night and they have a nice fireplace plus they have piles of logs to use for the fire. Last time we stayed at a shelter it was very quiet, it was us and another couple. Make sure to bring some tarps to close the two open sides and block the wind. The water doesn't taste good so I suggest to gather water at the streams and filter it. There are toilets but they smell pretty bad. The trails we hiked weren't busy at all. We probably met a person...

A friend of mine and myself went backpacking on an overnighter. We started at the Northern terminus of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, mile marker 70. That would be the Route 56 Trailhead. We backpacked in 5 1/2 miles to the Route 56 shelter area. The trail is well marked and the upkeep is great. No issues. The initial 2-3 mile climb out of the trailhead is a constant up hill, so you just have to be prepared for it. The shelter and camping area was great. It had fire rings, supplied firewood, and restrooms. It was a great experience.

Laurel Ridge State Park contains the 70 mile hiking trail from Ohiopyle to Johnstown. Do a small section for the day or plan for a several day hike to take in the whole trail. Get a map so you know where the warming huts are for winter. Also in season, be careful as hunting is allowed in almost all of the park. Snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are also popular here in winter. For events at this park visit: events dcnr pa For more information: pa parks and forests (diamond)

This place was very beautiful to visit! Even though there was no snow on the ground the scenery was amazing. It was a very nice get away for the day. I took my two dogs and they loved the lake! I also got really good pictures with my GoPro camera. There was nobody there so that was very nice. I highly recommend this. The only thing was, there were alot of gun shots in the distance. I am not sure if there is a range close by, but it was kind of annoying after awhile.
