Discover the "Real Florida" hiking in Florida State Parks!

Hawk's Bluff Trail is a short 0.9 mile (1.45 km) loop trail in Savannas Preserve State Park, which encompasses close to 7,000 acres of natural area. The Savannas contains the largest, most ecologically intact stretch of freshwater marsh in Southeast Florida.

Below is a link to a high quality (4K) YouTube video we created of the entire trail. Cut and paste this link into your internet browser to watch the video.

The trail starts and ends on the Atlantic Coastal Scrub Ridge. This scrub ridge is composed of ancient sand dunes and is listed as a globally-imperiled habitat. It is home to scrub habitat birds such as the Florida Scrub Jay and wading birds such as the Roseate Spoonbill. The scrub ridge habitat is also home to the Gopher Tortoise. Both the Florida Scrub Jay and the Gopher Tortoise are federally listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The trail works its way down through the scrub to Lake Eden, which is a large marsh habitat. From there, the trail works its way back up the ridge through an oak hammock habitat with the trail ending...

An acquaintance I know lives across the street, so one time I walked through the Savannah preserve State Park while listening and singing praise music to my Heavenly Father. The Savannah's is so exquisite just enjoying the beautiful creations that God has given us but I never completely made it all the way around felt very odd in the back half or bend (weird gut feeling) turned around and went back out the way I came in. Nature is very beautiful, I just wouldn't walk back there alone ever again with the feeling that I got. I've never felt that unsettled in the woods to turn around usually I would stand My ground. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. Have a very...

Great early morning or late afternoon spot. My dog loves it here and we hardly ever see other people thought there are always a few cars parked.... She runs off leash and we go around the loop a few times and though she is tempted to swim it is not too challenging to keep her out of the water as there has to be some gators and water moccasins in there - but I do know many dogs swim daily there. Spectacular sunset over the water and especially mid winter. It is kind of hot summer time, but bearable and you feel so removed even though the roads are not far away. First time I went I loved it so much I went back 5 times...

Truly impressed and totally surprised with this gem literally right off a main road. Only took about an hour to stroll and briefly stopping to take killer pics through the unique and swampy wet lands! Highly recommend making the trek and fun for all ages.

Beautiful wetland views, lots of shade in the beginning. Tons of flowers blooming and birds and wildlife. Best for morning or late afternoon as the meat of the hike is in direct sun. Varied trail and a great little escape in Jensen Beach.

Fantastic! Oak hammock, scrub, pine flats and wetlands all in one trail that offers elevation changes and the slender winding type of trails that I love. Great spot for birding, saw an osprey, moor hens, a coot and a purple galinue!
