Let me tell you a story.
I was skeptical when I came to this vineyard, but went through with my plans to patronize it because of the recommendation of NC Wine Guys, whom I also approached (skeptical) regarding this vineyard because it is such an outlier in terms of pricing. They have bottles of wine, produced with estate-grown grapes, priced in the triple digits.
I thought, well, maybe I’ll do the tasting and check them out— there’s got to be something to them if their prices are so lofty yet they seem to do well in the industry.
And let me say that I was impressed. My first criterion for judgment of a wine is always how it tastes, and the wines I tried at Dynamis Estate Wines in July of 2025 were exceptional in quality. They were different from most NC wines in that they have found a way to control the acidity in their product. I don’t know whether this is a factor of terroir, microclimate, extra maturation of the grapes, or some factor of fermentation, though I’m inclined toward the latter possibility. In any case, the wines I tasted in the Vineyard Flight were all the smoothest vinifera wines I have tasted in the state of North Carolina, both due to the aforementioned controlled acidity and low alcohol heat.
So, the wines were extra good, and the tasting room was… different.
There is no bar to walk up to— merely a comfortable seating area reminiscent of a climate-controlled back patio on an elegant house, and many “wine ambassadors” making their rounds. I knew ahead of time not to bring children inside, and the exchange with the wine ambassadors rewarded that (I see the complaints others have in the reviews mostly have to do with disallowing minors on premises). The wine ambassadors were welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful in my experience.
The exterior premises are picturesque and exactly what you would want from an NC mountain vineyard. No complaints there.
In summary, I came expecting to write Dynamis off for being so high-priced, but I left with two bottles in hand. It was difficult not to purchase the $100 bottle of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, but after some “financial sense” self-talk and minor crying into a pillow, I left with the Sauvignon Blanc and Omega.
Let me part by saying: if you patronize vineyards to enjoy wine, Dynamis very well may be for you. If you come for a family-friendly experience, then not so much. I left pleasantly surprised and with a much clearer understanding of their outlying pricing.
I hope to return in...
Read moreFather's Day weekend; it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in NC, and I wanted to treat my husband to a vineyard we have never been to before. Be aware, Reservations are required.
Your adventure begins as you pass through the custom-made iron gates and proceed through the most beautiful 1-mile drive up the mountainside to the estate. the road winds through thickly forested areas that open up here and there to immaculately groomed vineyards, peach, pear, and apple orchards.
We arrived at our destination already in awe and were warmly welcomed by Ms. Cindy who pointed out a few of the features of the tasting building as she led us to our Adarondac chairs which were already prepared for us with water glasses and a menu of the vineyards wine and food offerings. She recommended we split a flight to experience all the wines the estate had to offer before making a decision as to which bottle to choose later.
I wont tell you everything about the tasting, but some of the major points I would like to point out is that if you have not experienced sipping wine from the Ridel Glass, you really should before coming here. You will appreciate your tasting is brought to you in the appropriate Ridel glass. STANDARD! No cheap restaurant-style glass goblets here. This vineyard obviously takes its guest's wine experience very seriously. TIP: USE THE STEM to tilt your glass to your mouth, NOT BY THE GOBLET.
You really need to experience their wines for yourself but this is my quick rundown... Rose: a firecracker of flavors that evolve in your mouth, Fume Blanc: Sparklers with bright quick bursts of flavor and a clean short finish, Merlot: the most beautiful balanced smooth flavor like the chocolate silk fabric on the Dove commercial. Just a joy to drink. The Alfa: Very complex flavors. What character this wine has! Nothing is out of whack but the Cab Sav does present itself first before the other players join your palette. The Mountain: A Marriage of Cab Sav and Petite Verdot. both complement each other so wonderfully and are not competing for attention. Petite Verdot can be a bit pushy in flavor, but the Cab Sav has him under control.
If you are serious about wine or if you WANT to be serious about wine. begin your...
Read moreDynamis has got to be by far a 5 star breathtaking entrance but unfortunately lackluster tasting area/experience.
Hostess wasn’t really welcoming as we didn’t have a reservation. But there wasn’t many people there, nor a wait, so we couldn’t understand the need for the even asking for a reservation.
Additionally, we were abruptly corrected when we said what wines we wanted to taste that THEY select the wines they give us.
While this might be true, other wineries in the area explained the “tasting” much more personably. And in all honesty, we probably would have chosen the same ones.
That being said, the wines were decent, and opened my eyes to the different blends that they offer. Specifically the petit verdot. Thanks for that!
Wine notes: Dynamis- 1640 White- smooth but plain. Mix of the Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay. 2019 Alpha - complex bouquet, but great. 2021 Alpha - same thing but spicer, Joel. Omega - pungent, but not as good as the alphas 2021 - Cabernet, decent, nice bouquet, but slightly acidic. Joel thinks it light like a franc.
Having a restaurant with staff trained in hospitality would definitely increase this business.
Having a restaurant would be superb, I would have to be headed up by a superb chef.
Wines are high side for sure price wise. Not sure pricing out of the market is a good strategy long term. But having to pay for the acreage, perhaps that’s...
