This comes up as Nugget Falls. It is part of Mendenhall Glacier. Upon first looking out at the glacier, water, and falls, the vision provided is what nature should look like. You don't see tons of buildings or anything man-made in the way. It is just open and there for all to see in its natural glory. If you take the walk from the parking lot down to the waterside (closest to the lot, not back on the trail), you can see the glacier and part of the falls. Some may be content with that view however, we are a family of explorers and wanted to see everything as up close as possible. The water was very clear and clean looking. When I touched it, it was of course, ice cold. We ventured on to the path that takes you back to the falls and as close as you can get to the glacier (which is a bright blue). The walk down the path takes some time but it was well worth it. You can go and stand in the waterfall if you really wanted to. I don't recommend it as the water is very cold and it comes down very fast but, you get the idea. We walked right up to the cliff side that the waterfall was coming down from. We got sprayed as it hit the water at the bottom and splashed across the boulders and rocks. It sounded like a very small roar. Not what I had expected. It was quieter than I anticipated but either way, still beautiful and...
Read moreExperiencing a little piece of the past. The roaring nugget Falls is a breathtaking waterfall emptying into the Mendenhall Lake from the Nugget glacier far back into the ice fields. The trail leading up to the Nugget Falls is a beautiful experience in itself. You walk through breathtaking lush green rainforest engulfed in trees and Flora all around. The trail is very accessible and fairly flat throughout from beginning to end. On your way to the Nugget waterfall you catch little glimpses of the Mendenhall glacier nestled in the background. If you're lucky you can see small to large floating little ice pieces past you as you make your way up to the waterfall. The beach is huge so you have plenty of area to walk around and catch different views of the falls. The closer you get the louder it gets. It is a thrilling once in lifetime opportunity to see. An absolute must do if you are in Juneau alaska. This experience truly is a two-in-one, you get to see the Mendenhall glacier side by side with the nuggets waterfalls. These great wonders will not be around forever and if you're lucky enough to be part of a generation to see it don't let it...
Read moreVisited in June 2025. The cruise lines offer a packed sardine bus ride here where they drop you off at the front door to the park for a bunch of money. While I was walking around Juneau, I found out you can take the city bus for two dollars to the park if you are willing to walk a mile from the bus stop into the park. I believe most people are coming here to hike so a one-mile walk is easy. The walk up to the park was quiet and paved. A beautiful place to visit and did not have to deal with the mass of people being herded onto buses and having specific times at the park. The hike to the falls is easy. Nugget Falls is really impressive. A huge amount of water rushing down the mountain. There were not too many people, so it was easy to get pictures if you...
