My now husband and I got married here in May. I had never been to Skater's Cabin, and Google Image Search really didn't give me a very good idea of what a wedding might look like. We got lucky, the rain let up shortly after all of our guests had arrived, and I can say that everything went just as perfect as possible, for a wedding planned and put together in about a month and a half. Our wedding was very casual and I suppose a little rustic, and Skater's Cabin was the perfect location for us. It is easy to find, and has plenty of parking. We reserved the cabin for $10.00 an hour, and even though it is a very public place that I would imagine is a fairly desirable tourist stop, we didn't see anybody the whole time we were there. Read moreThe cabin itself is just what you'd expect at a public lake. 4 walls and a wood burning stove to warm up. It's actually rather spacious given the size of many "warming huts" I've seen. The cabin is used to get war while skating on the frozen lake during the winter. Given that the lake is fed by glacial runoff, it wouldn't take much to freeze!
The view of the Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls is quite nice. I mean, you are 8ish miles away from them, but you can still see both. Bring some binoculars and you'll get a great view. There is also a beautiful little sandy beach just down...
