We stayed 4 weekday nights at Little Buffalo SP near Newport PA in Perry Co near the central part of the state. We had site 26 which was near the end of the loop. I will say, the road around is a little tight, thankful it was one-way. Getting into our spot felt difficult because of the good incline backing it. Since it the perpendicular to the road I didn’t think there would be room to make the swing, but all went well and we didn’t even scrape our tow hitch backing in, so the incline steepness was just a misconception on my part. Pulling back out when we left posed no problem.
The site itself was on a slight incline and our levelmate said about 3 inches low in the front; side-to-side was fine. The pedestal was perfectly placed, the 50amp service was at 118vac and 60hz and even when our AC kicked in it only momentarily dropped to 116 and with probably most everyone running their AC’s because of the heat I thought the voltage held pretty good for the demand.
The only detractor for the stay that really didn’t effect us is that there is no potable water IN the campground, though it was available within the park proper. I didn’t inquire as to the reason, but non-potable water was available at the bathhouse, but we didn’t use it, but the bathhouse was clean. Also across from the bathhouse are their ADA sites opposite of them at the bathhouse is the dump station which was flat and easily accessible with very good water pressure and volume.
We had the customary fire-ring, picnic table and lamp post, though we didn’t use any of it. The sight had about 25% shade but we could’ve used our solar if needed out in back of our rig in the yard. Inside the loop is a large, nice grassy area.
We didn’t use any of the facilities but drove through the pool/swim area and it did look very modern and clean and would rival other municipal pools and splash parks; in that same area is abundant parking, grill, and picnic tables. Across the lake from the pool is the ADA accessible kayak launch and mini dock, the main boat launch is toward the dam. On the same side of the lake as the pool there’s also kayak and canoe rentals.
Little Buffalo is a very nice state with an equally nice campground; it was pleasant and quiet and we’d...
Read moreWe camped at Little Buffalo SP campground in Sept 2021 in site 40. It had room for our tent, was nicely separate from other sites, had good cell service and was just a short walk to the bath house which was new and very clean. This is the smallest SP campground we have visited, yet was very nice, and clean. We saw 2 other sites (23 & 33) which would also be very doable for us. One plus, while 40 was not an electric site, it did have an outlet there for our air mattress, and lights could also be used if we had any. Only downside, no real good trees for hammocks. The DCNR Rangers came around every 2 hours it seemed, and were extremely friendly. I think a team of 5 guys came to clean the bathhouse. A rooster could be heard, not sure where he was from. I would say the park (which we hiked to one day, drove to to start a hike the next) is exceptional. We really enjoyed the hiking trails with nice sights along the way. There is a really nice lake (we were a week too late for boat rental), a big pool, and many spots for day trip picnics/cookouts around the park. The campground has 3 walk-in sites. They are a long way in, but once you get there they are huge, flat, shaded and well separated from each other. Definitely...
Read moreWe're at Little Buffalo State Park near Newport,Pa. A pet friendly park that's Pretty close to the center of the state. The park is small compared to most Pennsylvania State parks at 923 acres it surrounds Holman Lake. There are 46 campsites up a pretty steep hill as the campground sits on top , the loop is paved and the sites are hard packed gravel, most with 50,30 & 20 amp power and water , picnic table ,fire rings and lantern post I would recommend one of the 4 pull-tru sites for big rigs ( 32’ and up) we got our 42’ 5er into site 13 (only) because no one was in #14 and I could pull into it and back into our site, 30 & 32 are doable back-in big rig sites too. There is a big modern bathhouse and two back-in ADA paved sites next to it and the dump station is around the side of it . There are small camping cabins and a big cabin / house that can sleep 12 for rent too. It a clean well maintained park and campground. A huge swimming pool The lake is known for it different species including largemouth bass, bullhead catfish, walleye, muskellunge, perch, and stocked trout. The lake is designated as a "Big Bass Lake," meaning 15” size restriction and four a day per person. There is a beautiful restored covered bridge...
