The actual memorial structure is interesting and has a good overlook of the river, but the gate is closed although a sign says it's open to the public. That means parking is extremely limited and not well marked. There are a couple of houses adjacent to the park that make it clear to not block their drive so there is no confusion about that being available for parking. It is clean once through the gates and I imagine suffers from lack of use. It has...

I love history good or bad. We learn something new. I wanted my grandkids to see the area where John Brown has a statue in his honor. Also, you can look and see where enslaved people crossed the Missouri River in hopes of freedom. It is also the site of Western University a former HBC that gave former slaved a chance to go to college. There is still work going on to finish up Quindaro, but it is nice and...

Clean and nice... Not vandalized or trashy. Open 24 hours according to Google. There's not much to see from the overlook, however. (It was after dark when I visited, but I did explore around a bit). The historical site has gazebo style rock structure with a few plaques in a memorial to the place and persons involved. The ruins can only be accessed by a steep decline in elevation. Unless you are in good physical, I do not recommend the hike down. After the steps stop, the ground is unstable and you will have to be careful not to slip.
