This is the perfect spot to visit if you're a wine novice or a self-proclaimed sommelier.
My girlfriend and I are starting to explore the vast wine world, and after a mediocre experience at another local winery we wanted to try again.
We walked into Somerset Ridge and felt immediately at home. The staff greeted and talked with us well above and beyond the standard "Hi, how can we help you?" and made us feel comfortable despite knowing next to nothing about wine. They invited us in as if we were family.
We went to the bar and happily agreed to the suggested wine tasting. We each got samples of a range of different wines (as well as souvenir glasses) and explanations behind each wine and the winery in general. They also let us know about their wine club and its perks.
We purchased a bottle of our favorite taster and sat in the indoor seating area because winter. The staff, and Georgie the dog, checked in on us to make sure everything was ok, and we had a great time talking and looking out at the snowy vineyard.
When we were ready to head out we got our bottle re-corked, bought a couple more bottles of our favorites we tasted, and walked around the wintery vineyard. Even in the dead of winter the property is beautiful and there is plenty to see.
I honestly can't wait to go back in the spring, sit outside with friends, and enjoy some good wine, live music, and whatever food truck is there that day. Everything we tried was delicious and I'm eager to try more of what they have. If you're anywhere in or near the Kansas City area, wine fan or not so much, you owe it to yourself to make the trip and check...
Read moreWine was good. Customer service was insanely poor. My family and I visited today and when walking up there were many tables open with no ‘reserved’ signs on them. We grabbed a table and proceeded inside, when asked how many people we had we responded with four, and the man helping said I think I can squeeze four people in today. We were very confused and felt like we were an inconvenience for not having a reservation. For my Mom, I asked for a white wine that was semi-sweet but still dry and the man helping us served us a good option for my request. We were served our wine and spent some time outside where we counted 13 open tables that did not have a ‘reserved’ sign on them. I decided I wanted a bottle of the wine I got and went back in to get it with my Mom. She asked what wine she had so I asked the same man that helped me previously what it was and told him it was a semi-sweet but still dry and he responded with “well that doesn’t make sense.” I’m not sure what changed from the request I previously had but it didn’t make sense this time. With all of this being said I would not recommend this winery to anyone if you do not want to be treated like you are lesser than the employees...
Read moreOne of my favorite places in the KC area. Not only are their wines fantastic, but the atmosphere and service is great! On the weekdays they allow you to bring in outside food and snacks, but on the weekends when they have food trucks it's the best. My favorite is the tapas from El Tenedor but the Pizza is really good as well! Sometimes there's a wait for the tastings ($6/5 wines and you get to keep the cute stemless wine glass), but usually the staff is very attentive to getting you in. I love their dry selections but they do a lot of wines that I think satisfy both a red/dry drinker (Aphrodite, Chardonel). My favorites though are their Flyboy Red and the Citron (a versatile dessert wine that makes some great mixed drinks - 1 part citron & 1 part honey whiskey and a dash of cinnamon is my favorite). Weekends they usually have live music which is always a treat! Wine slushies and wine Popsicles in the summer are super fun! And I especially enjoy just walking through the vines with a glass of wine! Please go check this place out, it will...
