This is a 2 fold definition - first I love all the drive through sites and their setup they are not right up close and each camper has their own uncrowded space, the camping on the cement pads that are side by side and you back in, not so cozy, definitely not great space at all for any stretching out your front door. Anyone camping on the right side of the cement curb like area is fairly crowded...better than nothing for a night. So if possible you want a spot in a pull through if you are there for any extended time. The playgrounds are great, the showers hot...almost uncomfortably hot and no ability to turn down the temps but they are free and great pressure. Good fishing! Second I found the setup very unorganized, they do not keep track of the sites. If someone leaves they will not allow anyone to use the sites, even if they know the place will remain empty - whether this is a result of the reservations site usage or flat out laziness I am unsure, there is a far better way to manage the camping system setup then to turn people down and leave spots completely empty and unavailable for days on end when there are people looking for a place to camp. From a camper owner standpoint it is frustrating to no longer have the option to camp on the road without having reservations (Covid changed this), no option to go on waiting lists, and spots must remain empty because a campground does not want to deal with tracking the sites outside of the online reservation system. Reality is the online reservation systems need work, nothing resets immediately if someone cancels, and they can't cancel once the reservation started...so if you cancel the day of it will not be open online for someone looking all day. If you leave the campground earlier than you are set for the sites are left empty because the office states they can't let someone in because it's considered double dipping 🙄. Conclusion...great place in pull outs, don't be too upset if your friends want to join but can't despite you seeing empty spots around you for days while the reservation site and office tells you there is...

We give this 4 out of 5 stars for a Kansas state park. We’ve been staying here for 3 weeks now in our custom camper van and we’ve had a good experience so far. We are long-term primitive camping. The park itself has been clean and well maintained. There was a big thunderstorm that took a bunch of tree limbs down and the park was hard at work the next day picking up and removing them with their ATVs. For the most part, the bathrooms stay stocked and semi-clean. On the weekends, huge crowds come in and the bathrooms get destroyed. Sometimes they stay out of toilet paper until Monday so make sure you bring a roll with you just in case. I think they could do a better job maintaining them throughout the weekend. I also would suggest an upgrade. The park does well enough to at least update them and have mirrors you can see clearly out of in there. The bathhouse #3 by the Bob Fleming church pavilion had one toilet out of order and another that has been leaking. The maintenance men, Swed and Louis were working on them when I came by one day and were very friendly and I chatted with them for a while. Carol in the front office was very helpful and helped me figure out what exactly I needed and better explained the pricing for long-term and annual passes as the website is a little tricky to understand. They have great fishing opportunities, and an abundance of cool wildlife like beavers, owls, snakes, and tons of geese! They also offer a laundry area (could also use upgrading as well) and a camp store available if you forget anything at home. They offer several areas for long-term camping and plenty of pay-by-the-night spots. Make sure to get there early or make a reservation if you plan on coming on the weekend in the summertime. Spots fill up fast starting Thursday. We stayed in the Pottawatomie cabin for a family vacation and we had the best time! Such a variety of activities you can do at the State Park, which was about 8 minutes from our cabin. Great spot for a vacation! Incredibly beautiful views. Great fishing spot, beautiful trails to walk, a swimming area (admittedly a little disappointed in how the buoys were not all anchored so the perimeter had blown around and made the swimming area terribly small), you can rent kayaks and canoes (just make sure you call to ask if it's available for when you plan to come, the website says memorial Day weekend but when we went to rent them we were told the end of June, and Wildcat Marina wouldn't rent them either due to blue green algae), and they also have an archery range! As for the cabin, it's not fancy but it's super nice to have air conditioning, a refrigerator , microwave, etc, while doing a camping style vacation. It's an escape from the heat without having to go back to the big city! You can tell the cabin has been there a while, it could use a deep cleaning, but all in all we were very happy and thankful to be staying there with such beautiful views! It's ADA compliant with everything set up so that you can stay there if you are in a wheelchair. As for the start park, it's a really fantastic spot to relax and connect with nature. We hope to make this an...
