I looked online and this was a trail that was recommended. It said it was 2.5 miles and moderate in difficulty. We arrived and I have to tell you all my watch said otherwise. When you take the trail you do get to a picnic area and can see some good views. These are the best views on the trail for sure. We kept going and the trail got muddier and muddier. Wear proper shoes and do not go in slippers. The catch of this trail is that it when you finish the trail you see nothing. You come to a sign that tells you that you are done. You can either go back and call it a win or you can hike up the next trail which will add another 45 minutes or so to the hike depending on your physical condition as it is basically almost all uphill. You will reach the peak and you will have an amazing view of the coastline where you will take pictures. There is also another area up there that will allow you to get good shots of the mountain. The trail itself was a let down for when you complete but if you continue up it is worth it. My step counter said after the addition to the trail to get to the top total was 10 miles. Plan accordingly as in bring plenty of water if you are not an advanced hiker or in good physical condition. Worth a try but 4 stars due to the lack of reward on completion of the...
Read moreGreat trail with amazing view at the top. The 11km round trip from the parking spot took us about about 2:45 hours. We took a lot of pictures at the secret grotto so you can definitely complete it faster than this. As a party of 4 intermediate hikers, we found this hike to be easy for a majority of the duration. However, about 200m after the junction with the east trail, things gets significantly more technical. We found that remaining small portion of the hike to be quite challenging. We would definitely suggest to start the hike in the morning so it’s not too hot and to bring a full 750ml bottle of water per person. Please also bring hiking shoes or boots as it can get muddy...
Read moreWhen you start from Kuamo'o road be aware that the first two miles are going to be in the rainforest which is cool to check the lush vegetation but can be extremely muddy. Another option is to start from the Nounou West trailhead. It's less muddy and more direct. The rest of the trail leading to the top is steep but definitely worth it for the awesome 360 degrees view you'll get from the top. The last few hundered feet after the shelter are much steeper and need extra caution but are 100% worth it. But again, take it slow and don't do it if you don't feel safe or if it is too slippery. You don't want to be a...
