I was passing through the area the other day and came across this bridge. I will be coming back in the semi-near future to explore the trails, but I did take a moment to go to the observation platform to take in the view of the merging rivers. If you arrive here via route 7, there is parking before you cross the bridge. Yes, you can drive across it, but there is no parking on that side of the bridge. The no parking side is where you need to go to take a short walk out to the observation platform where you can see the two rivers merge. I will update after my return visit at which point, I will hike the woods. This place is a real beauty! More to come in the future... Side note: Someone from the area told me legend has it that George Washington crossed that bridge... I cannot confirm or deny this. Update (June 2021); We finally made it to the area to explore a little. There is a scenic trail that runs along the Hudson River. There is a little area down low that goes to the river's edge. The area is nice. When there on the weekend, there is much more traffic and it is important to alternate traffic crossing the bridge, however, while we were there, several times, vehicles with New York license plates would follow the vehicle in front of them, doubling up and being totally rude to the people waiting patiently on the other side. Please be considerate and not scummy... Most people are decent, but the Bad Apples really do spoil the bunch.

There are not a lot of surviving covered bridges in the northeast (only three in Connecticut!) so it was pretty awesome to be able to visit this one that carries Bull's Bridge Road over the Housatonic River in Connecticut, very close to the New York border. The bridge was completed in 1842 with a Town lattice design. The bridge is a single lane and remains open to vehicular traffic. I opted to park the Sprinter van in a nearby parking area that acts as a trailhead. The bridge can be walked as a pedestrian but is not designed for such, so be on the lookout for cars and be sure to make your presence known. There was originally a 6 cent toll here but that is obviously long gone. The other two bridges are the West Cornwall Covered Bridge and the Comstock's Bridge.

Always such a pleasure to visit . Grew up going here and now I get to share it with my husband and doggie . We love the hikes up the trails, the fishing and just being able to watch water run . No mater what it's always so peaceful my home away from home . The only negative part I would say is the parking . First it's on the opposite side of where the trails begin and then It's on the other side of an in closed bridge that cars do not slow down on and there is barley any room to allow foot traffic . Making it a little more challenging to get to the trails but, it's well worth the visit .

Roadway so narrow that only one car at a time can pass through the bridge, and no pedestrians. The bridge is solidly built, with square fenestrations at regular intervals on both sides. The headroom is low, which is why there are archways on the roadway at both ends of the bridge, to deter taller trucks from approaching. The nightly Housatonic River flows underneath the bridge, from a hydroelectric dam. The Town of Kent operates the unpaved parking lot nearby, threatening to steal your vehicle and leave you to die overnight in the snow if you get lost and don’t reach your car by sundown.

Short but cute covered bridge, with breadth enough for one car at a time. A pedestrian walkway approaches the bridge, but does not traverse the bridge since there is insufficient space. Therefore be careful when exploring the bridge on foot. Spooner Pond slowly passes underneath the bridge. Nearby are antique gear works in display, and a unpaved parking lot for roughly ten cars. A beaten up wooden archway frames the road leading to the bridge, so that vehicles can determine whether they have the headroom for clearing the covered bridge.

A beautiful spot for a hike, the bridge is perched on the top of Husatonic river rapids and allows you to see white water stream right from its three windows on each side. Also it is surrounded by a picturesque preserve, which is a part of Appalachian Trail. On a nice weather day rafting lovers will challenge the rapids and you would watch them going down the river from the Bridge. The downside is, that the preserve is rather small and can be very crowded. We know the place very well, and go there all year around

Description
Bull's Bridge is a single-lane vehicular wooden covered bridge across the Housatonic River in the town of Kent, Connecticut, close to the state border with New York. The first instance of a bridge at this location was constructed by Jacob and Isaac Bull in 1760, which gave the bridge its name.
