Every one of the reviews I read had said that this place was great for camping. I must have been unlucky. Because this was the absolute worst stay at a campsite I've ever had in my 25 years of camping. The park is absolutely gorgeous and is great for picnicking. However, campsites 13-23 are so close together that you may as well be living in a small city. At any other campground, the sites are roughly 30X30 - think Rudd Pond or Norrie-Point or Rocky-Neck. These campsites were MAYBE 10x30. I was at campsite 13 when a youth-group reserved every other campsite, besides ours. The kids were loud and unsupervised up until 9:30. The rangers did not stop them, and instead hung out at the front office, meanwhile these kids were so loud they could be heard around the grounds. On top of all this, 4 bags of wood were wasted - at 5$ a piece - because they were wet. SOAKED. I brought back several bags, but this place made 20$ off of me for wet wood that wouldn't spark and literally STEAMED as I tried to light it. I was a boy-scout, and I've started hundreds of fires. We eventually gave up and left our campsite after I couldn't get any of our wood to light, but the kindling was fine. Of course, I'm now out 50$ for my campsite, time and gas...and 20$ for wood. I will never return for camping, and if I could make a couple recommendations to you it would be: Check your wood bag before you leave the ranger-station, don't sign up for sites 13-23 unless you like staring at neighbors 10 feet away and lastly, don't bother bringing alcohol - this campground is dryer than the wood they...
Read moreI spent this past weekend at Macedonia Brook State park. 26 through the 28th site 43. It was very peaceful and pretty clean. The babbling brook running next to the campsite offered a soothing sound to relax by. One other fact i would mention is the abundent mouse population. Soon after dark you can expect a raiding party of little furries to run all over camp. Imagine my suprise to have one perch atop my foot while i was roasting a marshmellow over the fire. The little furries mostly avoided the campfire light but i could see them near my woodpile and under the picnic table. My 4 season northface tent did a proper job of keeping the bugs and the little furries with tails outside of the yellow nylon walls. I had an outhouse about 20 yards away but at night with all the activity , I was happy that i had remembered my pee jug. Thankfully no 2 am forays to an even scarier place to get relief from a ful bladder. Mornings at site 43 you can expect the sun to peek through the trees around 8 am. If you look carefully you might see the silouette of giant millipedes on the tent wall. For those unfamilier Giant millipedes are a black and red bug about 2 inches long and about the thickness of a cigarette. I think they might be poisonis but that may just be a rumor. The brook is a fun place to fish and if you are so inclined i would recomend casting down stream to the deep holes after the manyrock drop offs. Remeber to get your fishing licence online. Follow all the park rules keep a clean camp and respect the...
