Living my whole life in Carrollton, I couldn't count the times I went to Butler for family events. Summer fun with paddleboating and mini golf. Holiday events like Easter egg hunts and the all famous haunted train ride, yet I never paid much attention to the house that was located on the grounds. Today I finally did. It blows my mind that this house was built back in 1859 and is still here. The original bricks laid at the same time still to this day guide you up a solid but slightly tilted walkway to the house. The house is intimidating as you get closer. There is something eerie about it. But push past that, and walk to the front of the house. The view from the steps looking over the land is breathtaking, minus the wind debris every where. Around back the house looks the exact same. Off to the left when walking the path behind is a trail that is serene through the woods and ends at the Butler Family Cementery. Now that needs a little love, but there is still beauty around the stone walls. You can get tickets for a tour of the house. I did not do that. I just explored around it. Again the view alone from the steps, is worth stopping by.

I joined KY Paranormal to lead investigations of this haunted historic home 2 weekends in a row. There was amazing interaction between the ghosts and ourselves. We used a K2 meter, a mag lite, and a RedPod to talk with the ghosts. The picture of the scratch on Jeff's back was made by Thomas, the ghost. We also talked to friendlier ghosts, Elena, Mary Ellen, and Lizzie. There was a little boy ghost up in the attic we also talked with. I got a few pictures and FLIR videos that will inspire your imagination!

I absolutely love this place. There are a couple of shelters, plenty of picnic tables and grills for cooking out. The shelters are available for rent as well which is nice. There's mini golf, boat rentals, and a playground as well but my favorite thing to do is walk the trails with my dog and play Pokémon Go! I go everyday and the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that none of the bathrooms in the shelters are open unless it's rented. Only the one near the playground, which is inconvenient.

I felt like the guide had no respect for items/history of this precious piece of history. Didn't know the exact facts and did alot of assuming of things from that era. Even some of the facts that she told where not correct. She added things to the areas and stated I don't know if the owners like it but I like it better like that.... We want to see things as depicted in that era.. Not what she wants to see (main dining room). She would pick up the precious pieces of history and say "I'm not suppose to do that but I don't care". She then says "they say that is a piece of history but don't you think that was just bought at the dollar store". Then my nephew goes to walk out to the outside kitchen and guide said "don't you think you have enough holes". Making reference to his percieing. I replied " what difference does it make if he likes it". It's a shame that beautiful history is guided with such lack of respect for the dead...

The good about the rooms: clean toilet, towels, and bed linens. Rooms had little porches with screened doors and all hard surface flooring. A nice breakfast bar was included. Kids enjoyed mini golf, but the course needed some TLC. The observation point offered a beautiful view of the convergence of Kentucky and Ohio Rivers and the city.

The not so good: floors could be swept/cleaned better. The grounds around the resort rooms need TLC (walkways swept/blown off, bird nests cleaned out of fire extinguishers, etc). The pool was not open and the alternate pool off location closed at 6 pm (did not tell us until after check-in). The Butler Historic Home tour guide was not there on a Saturday (they only give tours Friday and Saturday), and did not tell us until 30 minutes before the tour (the Saturday morning tour was why we spent...
