I backpacked an overnighter in The Clifty Wilderness. It was my first time on the Swift Creek Trail but not at all my first time in Daniel Boone National Forest. If you don’t know much about wilderness areas, the point of them is to keep them less refined or manicured like other places you might find in a national park or area. The Swift Creek trail within this wilderness area is rough! It has a lot of rocks, roots, severe elevation change, big slipping hazards, overgrown areas, exposed edges, etc. This trail is definitely an exercise in the vigilance of watching where you are stepping. With all that said, the water features of the trail I hiked were beautiful. The sounds you’ll hear are soothing too.
