Hwy 1679(LITTLE SHEPPARD TRAIL) from hwy 2010(LADEN TRAIL) to HWY U.S. 421 is overgrown, overhang of trees and brush. Goss Park has been vandalized no amenities are present at this site, only a beautiful vista and the fire tower is a big plus. In years past, Harlan County had a prisoner work camp on Little Shepard Trail. Seems everyone liked the camp. The trail was kept nice and vandalism was almost absent. The section of Little Shepard Trail from hwy 2010 to hwy 160 is a dangerous 11 miles and should be avoided. Only high clearance vehicles should venture. Road bed washouts, atv rutting are the norm.    Read moreUntil a few days ago, I had never heard of this small forested are in southeast Kentucky. I was fortunate to visit during the near peak of fall colors in early November 2021. The road is very narrow and windy. A little wider than a Honda minivan. Most of the road takes you high up on Pine Mountain to look down and see many beautiful scenes through the trees. It is always so wonderful to come across a new location in a state that I have lived in for over 20 years.
