Yes, keep in mind that you are TRESPASSING! I live on the street that people drive on to see the Ship. The ship is on private property and has no less than 15 signs posted for no trespassing. The problem is this road is out of the way and single lane for a reason, I move there for peace and quiet. On the weekend when the weather is nice the street has nearly constant traffic due to people wanting to see the boat. They park in neighbor's drive ways, on the side of a 1 lane road, the road has been blocked by repeat visitors stopping to talk to each other in their cars to discuss the boat. Last fall someone decided to deface the boat by painting an advertisement for an escort service. I've witnessed people climb on the boat and hang out all day smoking pot and drinking. I informed a man who was blocking the street that he was trespassing and his response was "something like this belongs to every one of us" NO it belongs to a private citizen and i ask him where he lives so i can round up 10 or so friends driving 10 or so cars and hang out in his neighborhood, driving in and out of it all day long and see how he and his neighbors like it. What started out as a few curiosity sight seeing people has now got out of hand since the boat was posted on numerous internet sights. Also since the respect shown for the locals who live there have grown worse grouped with the sense of entitlement that people seem to have as far as their right to see it has left me no choice but to inform the police every time i see a trespasser on...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit the USS Sachem ghost ship located just off the Petersburg exit, and it was an unforgettable experience! The ship itself is a magnificent sight to behold, with its rusty hull and broken masts rising out of the water like a ghostly apparition. The location is not too difficult to get to, making it accessible to visitors who are willing to take a short hike.
However, it's important to note that accessing the USS Sachem is illegal due to trespassing laws. The only legal way to view the ship is by kayaking via the Ohio River. Despite this, the USS Sachem is an incredible sight that is sure to leave a lasting impression. However I have been to see the ship several times and have yet to encounter trouble with anyone, just be respectful, don’t come in with music blasting or speeding down the narrow road. So just visit at your own risk.
The history surrounding the USS Sachem is fascinating, and the ship's abandoned state only adds to the mystique. As you explore the ship, you can't help but feel the weight of the past and the stories that are hidden within its walls.
Whether you're a history buff, a photographer, or just someone looking for a unique adventure, the USS Sachem ghost ship is a must-see. Just be aware that access to the ship may be limited depending on the tide and any previous visitors who may have left a way onto the ship, such as a rope or tree. Despite this, the USS Sachem is an incredible sight that is sure to leave a...
Read moreIf you visiting without a kayak, it is possible to drive along Lawrenceburg Ferry Rd and park off to the left side in a couple spots, but don't park in anyone's way or right in front of someones house. There are trails in the woods to/around the boat but the owners have put up a LOT more "no trespassing" signs in the last few years. The boat is surrounded by water most of the time so you will need a way to get over that to get on the boat. Sometimes, the water level is so low that you can walk on. There is a lot of rusted metal and holes to fall in on the boat and in the summer, there are spiders everywhere.
Most of the time, there are no other tourists there. But very rarely, there are multiple groups for some reason (usually boaters). One time, I saw some people (maybe owners) ask a couple to leave and that they weren't allowed on the boat, but other times, people camping in RVs on the shore of the Ohio (not a campsite, private property) could easily see us but didn't say a thing. It's hard to say how seriously they take...
