Vanhook Falls had at least 4 different waterfalls, including one you can walk behind and one with a watering hole. So many cool scenic views in a single 2.5 mile (5 mile roundtrip) hike. Some slippery and some very muddy spots when wet, but my 5 year old had no problem. Had to carry my 3 year old a few times. I would highly recommend this hike. I thought it was a lot better than Eagles falls hike, and that one is pretty nice too.

One more thing to keep in mind is that you have to cross across the creek multiple times. If you don't have good balance then you might want to wear some waterproof shoes.

Check out 360 photos I posted of different waterfalls (I have pictures of 3 different...

Absolutely gorgeous! I went in April 2021, a few days after a good rainfall. The follows the creek, so there was an abundance of water features, especially if you adventure on the spur trails leading to the more hidden gems - some had areas of steep elevation and easy rock scrambling. Did a 3 day backpacking trip starting at this trailhead (which is also Sheltowee Trace Trail) to Rockcastle Narrows East Trail. It was easy to spot some dispersed camp sites. Van Hook Trail had some decent traffic during the day being a weekend, nothing overwhelming though. I did not have cell signal past the parking lot...

Nice mostly flat well worn trail following a stream which builds up gradually. About half way, lovely ridgepole pines take over provide great vertical lines to contrast with the medium growth woods at the beginning. A few creek crossings either by log, placed stones, or old fashioned wading. Saw one bike bridge over a lot. Lots of dog pawprints, including the massive one pictured, which had us fooled for a bear's until we looked it up. Nice, serene hike. Lots of tracks but not much traffic on the...

This is a great trail, moderate in difficulty. There are no long extreme inclines or declines. As you get nearer to the falls the trail narrows and there are roots and a few rock scrambles. The trail follows a creek for most of the hike. There are many small falls or cascades along the way as well as several creek crossings. I was there on a Sunday, so lots of folks out enjoying this pretty hike! The trailhead is about a 20 minute drive from I75, very easy to access. Highly recommend.
