What do I say. The weather never seems to favor Sun Valley. It generally sees about four major storms a year, from the west, and often these are diverted south to Colorado by the mountains. The result is that they must make their own snow (employing one of the largest snow making operations in the west) and rely on nightly grooming to make the runs slightly skiable, but often only slightly better than ice. They have mostly Blue and Black runs, but they have downgraded these calling them Green and Blue, saying that Green is considered the "easiest way down" (true, but that is not the intention of the designations and it would be dangerous for a beginner skier to attempt many of this mountains Greens). It's a point of pride with the locals but places many...

Unlike other resorts parking isn't designed for folks who are older or a parent skiing with the small child. The trip to/from the River Run parking lot is long and there is no shuttle services (or it rarely runs - I never saw it). At the end of the day everyone walks uphill to the car. But how does that work for 2 older skiers? Or a parent with a small child (do they leave the kid behind). In the pick up area, cars pile up to pick up people left behind while 4 people in yellow jackets try to organize the chaos. My theory is Sun Valley isn't ready for the growth that Ikon adds and has not built the transportation infrastructure that one finds at Snow Basin (its sister resort). The ski experience starts and ends often with the...

We went here last week and skied here from Friday to Monday, and on the first day, we went to the smaller resort. It had some of the best powder I have ever skied there were almost no tracks, and it was full powder. There was no one it felt like we had the resort to ourselves. we went to the jumps, which were great. The rest of the week, we went skiing in the big resort, and the snow was still good, but there was no powder. I like how steep and challenging the runs are, and the atmosphere in the resort is great. My favourite lift was Christmas because of the trivia questions and the great jumps. overall, it is a great resort and great for...

Sun Valley trail rating system is unique to the area...Bald Mountain Green runs are steeper than usual, stick to Dollar Mountain if you are a beginner. No lift lines, locals aren't always very welcoming to outsiders (especially since one of the guys in our party had a leashed ski bike and we were told repeatedly that he couldn't bring it on lifts - he was only restricted on some lifts, by the way). Older crowd in general, small town with nice variety of apres ski activities.

Gorgeous Mountain View’s all around us in Sun Valley. As a city girl who only knows flat lands these views were magnificent! Quick note: The Sawtooth Range is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in central Idaho, United States, reaching a maximum elevation of 10,751 feet (3,277 m) at the summit of Thompson Peak.
