Okay, I'd like to start off by saying that this is a VERY small renaissance faire. So, you cannot judge it the same way you might judge Texas Renaissance Festival or Scarborough Ren Faire. If you can remember the very earliest days of Sherwood Forest Faire, this is pretty similar.
Now, for the actual review: This faire has a LOT of heart. Every employee and cast member was extremely friendly and engaging. They also made a very big point of including kids. This is the kind of stuff that makes or breaks these types of events. A lot of bigger events have "activities for kids" but there's not a ton of engagement or it's all very robotic (or both). The actress playing Morgan le Fey was very good at interacting with kids and even gave them a quest to go on.
The setting was also pretty enchanting. There wasn't tons of landscaping or anything, but the owners did a good job working with what the location had to offer.
There were at least three places to snag some food/alcohol and one place for mead (pretty solid for a faire this size). The burgers weren't so hot, but I enjoyed the dragon balls (just try them 🙄).
Important to me, but maybe not to you: They had actual jousting and not choreographed Medieval Times type jousting (courtesy of the American Jousting League).
If you're wanting an event with 100+ vendors or towering castles, this ren faire isn't that (yet 😉). If you're wanting somewhere fun to take your family that isn't too expensive and good for a few hours of entertainment... this is a great choice. Looking forward...
Read moreI went with family to see my bestie perform. I was thoroughly disappointed with a lot of things about this Renaissance faire. I'll start off by saying that the cast members, performers, and majority of the vendors were amazing. The belly dancing and musical performances were fun, lively, entertaining, and my daughter loved them.
Now, let's move on to the bad. Some of the vendors seemed to not even want to be there and had a sour energy about them. There also weren't very many vendors to begin with. Even for a small show I expected a bit more vendors. The area felt bare and empty.
There were tech issues throughout the whole event. The tablet at the ticket stand was not charged, and there was no charger so only one person was checking people into the show. One of the food vendors had their card reader stop working so they were cash only. One of the other food vendors was also cash only which left one food vendor taking cards.
I got a beef sandwich and a loaded baked potato. Half of my beef was burnt. The potato was great though. Food ran out quick. While we were sitting and eating they ran out of pork and beef. The nice thing was there was a table with a fan so my daughter could cool off.
All in all, it's an okay event for just going one day. There is also a quest you can take where you take selfies with items/people throughout the faire. However, by the time we found a couple of them we didn't have the energy to continue the search.
TLDR; Bring plenty of cash. Enjoy the cast members....
Read moreIn previous years it has been a blast to go to, food was pretty good, a good variety of vendors, good shows, and the armored fights we're pretty good.
This year none of that was true. Perhaps it was because it was almost the end of the season, but it seemed like everything was sub par this year. After consideration I've changed from a 1star to 2star because perhaps some allowances should be made, and was maybe just a off day.
I am aware this review is just for Avalon faire as whole and they are not directly responsible for the individual vendors and shows, but as others have honored them for great times I feel they should also be responsible for them things are not
I may return and change my review again, but this year was a disappointment and was a waste of...
