This piece of land was recently purchased by Pathfinder’s to keep it from being developed. It’s about 250 acres and is a beautiful place for a walk or hike. There’s restrooms and enough parking and is well maintained. The park has some open fields that are good for a stroll etc. There’s also some hiking trails that vary in difficulty and length. Besides the hiking/walking areas there is a lagoon and a lake. It’s a beautiful place in Killingworth. It’s not located on a main road so you’ll need to use Waze, Google maps, car navigation etc. Just search Deer Lake Scout reservation or 101 Paper Mill Road, Killingworth CT.

I happened to go to Connecticut for brief activity, but with a lot of time to spare, I decided to join an AMC hiking group in this camp. Beautiful landscapes, an enjoyable trail with nice features (a historic papermill footing and ruins), the lake and animal species, and the rock formations ("the squeezer") It was the best one day hike I have had in a while.

Beautiful property. Today we walked the yellow trail to the white and back to the car. Not very well marked but doable. Saw an Eagle over the water and evidence of beaver activity along with plenty of Osprey. These guys are lucky to have such a fine place to live.

If you're a Scout in CT, then chances are you've been here. This is a great and highly underrated camp. Multiple camp sites, dining hall, lake, hiking trails and more. We've stayed here with our Cub Scouts Pack for "Family Week" (which was excellent and highly recommended!) and now for Boy Scouts. Easily accessible from I-95 N and S.

If you are a Scout leader (Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts), then you should really consider this location for...
