Scheid Vineyards - Winery & Tasting Room — Attraction in King City

Friendly staff, nice decor and atmosphere both indoors and outdoors. Very spacious outdoor patio area with lots of sunshade options, a bocce ball court, lots of quality wooden tables and chairs, a large jenga set. They offer a variety of events at the property such as wine & paint night, summer bbq and market festival, etc. They make a large variety of wines, 39 varietals from across 4 AVAs. And even within a single varietal, such as Chardonnay: they make different types to appeal to different taste preferences (100% stainless steel, 100% oak, and a 60/40 blend). Terrible experience. The employee made absolutely no effort to explain or make our experience memorable. When we asked him to explain what varietals were in the white blend, he literally responded with “I don’t actually know what is in this” and made no effort to find out. To charge $25/person is thievery. Also, the quality of the wines we tasted were very low especially given the reputation of wine in nearby. Overall, I feel cheated and will caution that this winery is to be avoided.

I've gone a few times with first-timers, and both times we were served by someone who didn't know about the wine. I asked if they could talk a bit about what they're pouring, but I was told to look it up on the website, I'm not used to that kind of response. It would be cool to have an option of bringing our own food like most wineries allow. Or maybe a simple food menu. We've got some great local options: cork n plough, surf n turf, pizza places, kc grill. My last few visits gave the impression that staff did not want to be there. Maybe they were having a bad day.
