Three of us drove four and a half hours from Ohio in the midst of a Ohio winter storm to play golf someplace warm for the day. It was a beautiful day for mid-February, about 65°. This is a Gene Hamm designed course. he did a number of the earlier courses at Myrtle Beach which frankly I've never felt had a lot of design to them. I was curious as to how his design skills would translate in more of a Foothills type course. Overall I thought the layout was very good and above my expectations. Of course it is Bermuda grass which was dormant. from the blue tees which are only about 6,400 yd, it has a 130 rating. The fairway bunkers are not that much in play and should not create too many problems even if you get in them the difficulty most usually lies around the greens which are contoured and extremely fast especially when they are dormant. If you have some rounded fronts and the Bermuda of course makes it very difficult to bounce anything on to the green. There are only two par fives and they open each nine. The par threes are legit with the shortest being in the 170 yd range. The greens are large enough to present multiple pin positions and there are sufficient traps around them to make some of those positions tough to get at. If you miss the green you are generally chipping uphill or have a downhill lie if above the green setting. Typical for Hamm the fairways are fairly generous. Located at the base of pilot mountain there is a view of the mountain on nearly every hole so it is quite scenic. It's a pretty good layout and design. Lot of undulation in the fairways up and down with the tees and greens often being elevated. with grown in Bermuda I could see this course being a lot tougher than when we played it. We would...
Read moreFriendly staff, but to expensive for what you get. Course is small I’m mean really small. You’re constantly dodging balls or someone yelling fore all around you. Cart path is sometimes shared with other holes, fairways are flooded, and if its cart path only you better bring some carbs to fuel up. It’s like someone cut out a golf course in a cow pasture, paved a cart path on one side of each hole, planted some grass, in a muddy field, and somehow forgot to put any yardage markers for any hole. You hit a good shot but it’s over the hill so you spend much time looking for your ball. Years of golf play and this one ranks as the worse for what you pay. $80 for a course that on its best day is worth about $45.00 and the view of Pilot Mtn be damned. Totally...
Read moreplayed here for the first time today and man was it fun! got an awesome deal online i guess because the front 9 greens were being remolded and played the back twice which i didnt mind. the layout was awesome, greens were crazy fast with some tough slopes on some holes were almost border line unfair but i thought were awesome! good practice facility and very friendly staff. played with another single that was very friendly and overall had a very fun day. 5 stars recommend and will be back soon. dont be fooled by the shorter yardage and friendly layout because the greens made up for it! go try it out out if you havent and was worth the...
