Pilot Mountain State Park — Attraction in King

Beautiful State park with spectacular views, and cool hiking trails! From several overlook points, one can see the Blue Ridge Mountains, the cities of Winston Salem, High Point, and Greensboro (clear days offer better views), Hanging Rock, and into the southern Virginia mountains, as well as many other sites. The main overlook near the parking lot offers pictorial signage that shows points out each location. (Don't forget to pack binoculars for optimal sightseeing) Trails range from mild/moderate to strenuous; well marked and clean, with some benches provided. Do come properly equipped with rugged, comfortable footwear, water, and snacks. The trails around and near the knob offer lots of natural beauty in the stunning rock formations, colorful foliage, and some wildlife (lots of vultures flying on thermals, or roosting on the knob's top). While nature is striving to come back from it, there is still evidence of the wildfire that occured in 2021. Overall, this is a must see park, and best of all, it's free! Pilot Mountain State Park is a beautiful place with multiple trails and beautiful views. There is a shuttle that takes visitors to the top, but we took the 'Blue' trail which is a 6 mile round trip up to the top. The Blue trail is on the more difficult side, with a lot of uphill walking.
