Just wow! I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Definitely better than most zoos; as opposed to small, contained, manufactured environments, yards away from spectators, these animals are kept in more natural, free roam environments, fenced in only a few feet away from you! They’re happier & more acclimated to humans than other exhibits, so you’re able to get a good look at these guys, many respond to verbal clicks, grunts & hand gestures (if u know what you’re doing) and walk the (impressive yet easily treaded) park with you! The tram-ride tour comes highly recommended (with a feeding version @ 3:30) where the guide gives you some fun facts, and rather depressing back stories, as ALL the animals are rescues, many abused, unable to be released/ survive in the wild. They love and care for over 150 animals, around 50 different species, a lot big cats, monkeys, and a few commoners such as coyotes, bears, llamas (a giant camel) & raccoons, they also have a few avian and reptilian friends as well (this not a zoo, so they don’t boast the array of wildlife, aquariums, reptile & avian houses, but that’s not to be expected & not the Keepers purpose) being non profit & without government funding, 100% of all proceeds go directly towards the extensive care for these magnificent creatures. It’s very apparent these animals are loved and greatly cared for, never has a review brought me to tears, but this is the one! I need 5 more stars on here! Also, they welcome outside food, and have a nice dining area just inside the park, the gift shop is very nice and features comfortably priced on merchandise, with appreciated, normal pricing on drinks & snacks, as opposed to other places standardly charging $5 for a bottle of water etc, all of which goes back to the animals. And to a few of the sub par reviews? Guess what?! This isn’t a zoo, they’re not curated or funded, the empty enclosures are nothing to complain about, these are RESCUE animals, that have only the generous love of their excellent caretakers, who’ve been given a second lease on a hard life with financing only from us patrons, so shut up & contribute or don’t say anything at all. I’m absolutely proud to pay the cost of admission and honestly wish I had $1000’s to contribute to this wonderful...
Read moreMost people dont know that here in Vegas there used to be a place, if you sat in the desert you could hear the lions roaring. Well before I moved to Vegas and I used to wonder what that was all about. Fast forward to the nearer present. I had the opportunity to work for that non-kill animal sanctuary for quite some time. During which I even helped to facilitate a couple of people to connect with Keepers of the Wild.
This amazing Non-Profit was founded in 1995 providing home and care to wildlife that could no longer be housed in their current state. Due to abuse, neglect, retired and so forth. It provides permanent stability for these animals. These animals have been surrendered by private owners and animal welfare agencies.
The grounds are set up for each animal that comes in to provide them comfort and peace as they live the rest of their days out. This care is medical, food, and maintenance of the habitats. Now I will admit I was even impressed by the size of these structures that are provided. Everything is set up to keep the animals within a sense of being in the wild, however still providing them safety within the limits of the sanctuary itself.
Would thoroughly recommend - Pricing is reasonable, and the funding goes to a very good cause as it is all generated back into the upkeep of this sanctuary. You can do a self walking tour, and guided tours. There is a gift shop as well. Masks are required at this time due to...
Read moreIt was “ok” we did the guided tour and paid close to $200 for our group. The guide was charming, but barely kept his headset on, so we couldn’t hear him half the time. When he was talking it was mostly mumbling about personal experiences with the animals and didn’t give much actual information. A script would probably have made this a better tour.
There were some cool animals and after the guided tour we walked on foot. I actually think paying the lesser fee and doing a walk through is a better idea. At least you can see the animals closer and read the informational plaques and learn about them. From the vehicle tour it was too fast, far away to see and as I said a mumbling and not real informative speech.
The store inside was clean and had some cool souvenirs and clothing along with snacks, but the man working inside was extremely unwelcoming and rude. Bathroom was not clean and both paper towel machines were empty/not working. We made them aware when we arrived and after 2 hours in the park at the end they still hasn’t remedied that problem.
The kids will enjoy this as much as any other zoo or walk through but it’s really not anything special. The biggest habitats were empty and overall it was mediocre experience.
However if the $185 we spent went towards helping the animals, then all in all I’m...
