This is one of mine and my sons favorite parks to go to, FREQUENTLY! Last year they revamped an area outside for children and adults alike. Everytime we go we are there for hours. Its free too! There is so much to see when you come; from the new Play Yard (thats educational and interactive), Quiet Garden, Hiking Trails, an Outdoor "Zoo" (you are able to walk through and view animals; and better understand what this reserve does). There is an Indoor Exhibit-Nature Center, that is educational and interactive; where you can read facts and the history of the area and county. Without further rambling I will end with this; if you are short on money for activities, have multiple children to entertain, or just love being outdoors exploring and learning, Come to Penitentiary Glen! Get them out of the house and bring lunch because you too will be outside and learning, all while having a blast. Love Love...
Read moreI called ( during business hours) and had to leave a message regarding an injured Canadian goose my husband had found. When I finally received a call back I was told "we received several calls about the goose this morning, we're not taking any birds at this time" so in other words too bad for the poor goose, we're not helping! I was told to call another rehabilitation center in Bay Village. This by far is not the first time I've been refused help by PG for injured wildlife. For birds or otherwise. It's such a shame that my tax dollars help fund this "rescue facility" that doesn't seem to be any help at all!! Save yourself time, stress and potential tears and just call Lake Erie Nature and Science Center in Bay Village. They've always been helpful when PG has failed!!! They're helpful on the phone and really seem to take their job in assisting...

First off, the ice age era gorge is beautifully lined with eastern hemlocks and is cooler than the upper area, hence the boreal vegetation inhabiting it's slopes. To get down into the gorge, they have a designated wooden staircase that you follow until you get to a slightly raised fenced platform. Sitting on the bench down in this prehistoric relic is truly something else! Second, the wildlife resue section is a great place for injured wild animals. They have a bald eagle, two grey fox, a crow, multiple raptor species, and multiple other native wildlife species that unfortunately can't be released back into the wild. The hiking trails are also nice. My favorite was the gorge rim trail. I could imagine Gandalf the grey wandering...
