This museum is open seasonally; we made it a pit stop without realizing but it was still a great place to stretch our legs with cool monuments and picnics tables outside. While we were exploring, we were approached by a museum volunteer who lives nearby. He happened to see us, and even though the museum was closed for the season he opened up the train car so my kids could see the inside and share bit of local history with us. A great respite from our travels! Thanks Bob for your hospitality!

We pulled into Kit Carson and discovered this museum. We also discovered we were about a month early before it opens for business once more. So we stopped and snapped a few photos. The two old may or may not be part of the museum collection as they are parked in the driveway of a house next to the museum. But they were nice and in great shape so I snapped their photo as well.

It was closed for the winter when we stopped by on a recent business trip through eastern Colorado. We needed to get out and walk around a little after the yummy lunch at the Trading Post Restaurant down the street. Although the museum building was closed for the winter the rest of the area had some interesting wood and metal sculptures.

This is one of the better Western museums we have visited on our many travels. Worth stopping for a visit even if the main museum building is closed. We did not run into Jack but Bob(a museum volunteer) came by and surprised us with cold sodas. As it was a hot day (even though it was only early May!) was much appreciated. he gave us a very interesting history of the town of Kit Carson. It was interesting to find that Bob and I were kids in the same...
