This is always a good place. It's closed right now (9/16/23) as the road up to it is torn up so it can be repaired. They're repairing all of East Rim drive over a period of five years, so different parts of it should be close to different years. That said, there are accessible viewpoints nearby on the East rim with great views of the lake, and the nearby Mount Scott Trail is still open.

Cloudcap Overlook itself is one of been too many times. It's the highest point on the rim, and has to absolutely beautiful views of the lake looking west towards Wizard Island, Llao Rock and the Watchman 6 miles away across the water. It's a great overlook, one worth of visiting once the road is open again.

The entry fee for Crater Lake is currently $30 per vehicle and it's good for 1 week. America the Beautiful and Access passes are...

Awe struck every time we visit Crater Lake. This was the first time to drive the full Rim Drive with the seasonal East Rim and it was magical. Lots of great stops and overlooks for photo ops. And beautiful hikes and waterfalls. We usually visit during winter months for snowshoeing and sledding. The full Rim Drive is only open from about late May or June through October'ish. If you plan to visit in summer, I recommend mid-week and early morning for the least traffic. Better visibility at overlooks, less trail traffic, and better parking opportunities. Summer can be very busy. I recommend stopping at every stop and hiking every trail you are able as the views are different...

I would consider this one of my favorite overlooks at Crater Lake because of its height. Being able to see Mount McLaughlin from the distance is awesome. Though at the same time Wizard Island is hard to see from here due to altitude haze. Either way it is worth the drive, we turned around after this overlook and went back down the rim to leave the park as the other half of the rim was closed for maintenance. If you want, this overlook is a great stopping point for visiting Crater Lake.

Additionally, it can get quite windy, and even in early August when I went, it was slightly chilly compared to the rest...

Cloudcap Overlook offers one of the most spectacular views in Crater Lake National Park. Perched at the highest accessible point on the rim, it gives you a sweeping perspective of the lake’s deep blue waters, Wizard Island, and the surrounding cliffs. The air feels crisp and refreshing up here, and on a clear day you can see for miles. The road to Cloudcap is a bit narrow and winding, but it’s absolutely worth the drive for the incredible panorama and peaceful atmosphere. A perfect spot to take photos and soak in the beauty of Crater Lake.
