The Neuse River Greenway Trail is a tranquil hideaway that provides the perfect balance of natural beauty and recreational activities, making it a great destination for anyone wishing to cycle or walk away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This quieter stretch of Raleigh's enormous greenway system follows the Neuse River, offering breathtaking views of the water and surrounding countryside.

The trail's rich vegetation and bright plants will capture you as you go along it. The covered spaces provide a comfortable setting for outdoor activities, allowing guests to enjoy walks or rides even on hotter days. The trail is well-maintained and wide enough to accommodate both bikes and walkers. One of the unique aspects of the Neuse River Greenway Trail is its abundance of bird-watching opportunities. The diverse habitats along the river attract various bird species, making it a fantastic spot for nature enthusiasts and bird lovers. With a bit of patience and a keen eye, you might catch sight of herons, egrets, and songbirds as you explore the trail.

The peaceful atmosphere of the Neuse River Greenway Trail invites visitors to connect with nature, whether you're out for a brisk walk, a leisurely bike ride, or simply taking in the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. The combination of natural scenery, shaded paths, and ample opportunities for bird-watching makes this trail a delightful retreat for anyone seeking a calming experience in nature. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, the Neuse River Greenway Trail promises a refreshing escape that showcases the beauty of Raleigh’s...

Whats not to love about an unbroken 30+ mile trail from Falls Dam to Clayton! Connected in 2 ways to Raleighs beltline trails the stretch to through Umstead (gravel) to Cary, west to the ATT which goes to downtown Durham. Wow, right? Few other trails have such long unbroken stretches like this in America. It does suffer after huge downpours when the Falls Lake engineers have to let out water. It can become muddy in the north part, slippery on bridges. But this is normal since most all greenways follow septic line right-of-ways which follow waterways. The bridges along this well-paved greenway come from some Federal grants and they hit home runs. Cyclists & Hikers just need to be respectful and this will remain a great place to take in nature...

Great for road biking! Biked from Falls Lake Dam to Horseshoe Farm. It was about 8 miles and extremely pleasant, mostly flat. The scenery is really lovely and we saw so much wildlife! We saw turtles, lizards, bunnies, deer, cardinals, herons, doves, and robins, and even a few snakes! And this was midday. Plus all the trees make this squirrel paradise. It wasn’t crowded at all, though we went on a Friday, and parking is plentiful. I expect it would be packed on the weekend. Bottom line: Highly recommend for road biking. Friendly to all levels/desired distances (you can bike much further than we did). Lots of nice stopping points and benches. Bathrooms and water fountains at several points. There is even a bike rental...

Good exercise trail for locals, do not recommend as a destination trail. I found the Neuse River Trail while searching the web for cool trails to check out on our Fall trip. It showed having a pretty waterfall / dam in many of the photos. After riding our tandem bike 19 miles to the end, no falls:( I showed the images on my cell to a couple of local cyclists. They said the dam and resulting waterfall were tore down a couple of years ago. A large dam is blocking most of the river's flow now, resulting in milky tea colored, almost stagnant water. On top of which, the trail follows the area's sewer line. So we noticed countless sewer mounds along the way, venting a foul stink from them.

Our teens and I went for an 18-mile ride in March. The trail is flat and easy, great for exercise or a family outing. People along the trail waved at us as we rode by, making it the friendliest bike trail we have ever encountered. It was a beautiful day, but everything was dormant so there wasn't much to see. We saw a few birds, but had hoped to see more wildlife. Wildflowers were few and far between. From some vents, there is a sewer smell, and the river looks dirty. I wouldn't get into the water myself.

This is a very, very nice trail. It is well-maintained with several paths to take. The access to the river makes for great shots. I didn't explore all of it but it definitely a popular trail for bikers, runners, scooters, and just strolling through nature. My group had a great time experimenting with different photos shots & poses using the elements of the trail. We also saw a few hares along the way - so cute!
