Forks of the River WM Area is a fantastic piece of the greater Knoxville Urban Wilderness. The Will Skelton Greenway is paved and perfect for runs, walks, bikes (all including families too) along the river. There are plenty of park benches and views of the river as well that are fun to look at. For those looking to get on the trails, head all the way to the end of the greenway and run, hike, or bike down the Whaley Trail for a bit more of a challenge. The sunflower fields are in full bloom in July and August; a spectacular sight. A few notes about the fields: first is they sometimes have off years where they clear the sunflowers to help preserve the land for future growth. Check online first to see if it is an off year, this year is not (2019) and they are beautiful! Second is that it can get CROWDED and parking can become stressful in the Forks of the River parking area. Consider parking in either of the Mead's Quarry parking areas and going on an enjoyable 1 mile walk along the greenway to get to the fields instead. A must see for...

Trail is shaded and you get glimpses of the river. The sunflowers are visible from the trail in spots till you get out of trees. "Goat" pathes from the parking lot and the paved trail to the flowers. We didnt attempt to take the wheelchair closer; the first 2 pathes were muddy and steep. But it didnt hinder our day and the views we had were wonderful. Bikers and runners share the path so remember to be alert. Everyone was happy and enjoying the day! Manual chairs will need help in the gravel lot and initial access to the trail as you transition from gravel, up a short incline on dirt to...
Read moreLove love love this area! We come as a family to run and hike often. It's always super pleasant and even when there have been events going on, we've always found parking which is awesome. On the weekends there are always families and everyone brings their puppers. There are bathrooms but bring a bag or two for the pup as the pick up bag stations aren't restocked often. Trails are well maintained and marked and the paved path is a perfect amount of hilly for good exercise running or walking. And it's wide enough to pass bike traffic with a stroller. Wonderful place to come be in the woods for a little while and it's safe. There are fewer people during the week but there's almost always...
