This beach is my favorite so far on Kodiak Island. It's in a nice protected cove with very small waves providing an easy place for kids to play at the edge of the water. There are tables and benches in the shade at the top of the beach and parking is very close. You can fish, kayak, paddleboard, or swim in the ocean or the small stream at the edge of the beach. It's about 15 minutes from town making it far enough to...

Very special beach with such a shallow rise to it that the tide goes out probably 200 yd so there's lots of shallow water, good for kids to play in. My theory about the designs and swirls the sand makes is that the white sand and black sand have different densities, so as the waves ripple through the sand, it causes them to lay out in patterns, very beautiful. And different every time...

At first, you don't see much more than strips of white, sandy beach, but then you see more of the white sands just below the surface of the shallows. The main shore is mostly black sands, stone, rock, and seaweed. But for seashell hunters it's ideal. One of the people with us even found a starfish. Despite the name, there’s not all that much white sand. It’s fine on a sunny day, but on a rainy one, the distance from town and lack of covered facilities don’t make it worth the drive. On July 11, 2021, I found a fair amount of garbage and graffiti on and near the beach. Buskin River, Mill Bay Beach, Fort Abercrombie and other spots around Kodiak are better places to go.
