🌿🌊Located long the serene Pigeon River, the Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve spans 81 acres, providing a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Here's what this picturesque preserve has to offer:

🏞️ Size and Frontage: Encompassing 81 acres, this preserve boasts an impressive 1.4 miles of frontage along the pristine Pigeon River. It's a haven for those seeking tranquility in the embrace of nature.

🌳 Land Description: This preserve is graced with pine forests perched on steep bluffs overlooking the river. The river itself is a blue-ribbon trout stream, making it a delightful spot for anglers.

🚶‍♂️ Trail Exploration: Over five miles of scenic trails wind their way through the Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve, connecting it to the adjacent Boyd B. Banwell Preserve. Notably, the Nature Megaphone can be found within the Banwell Preserve, adding an acoustic touch to your outdoor adventure.

🌲 Andreae Cabin: This preserve is home to the Andreae Cabin, named after Agnes S. Andreae, who generously donated 27 acres of land and the cabin in 1983. The cabin overlooks the river and is available for use by non-profit or community groups at no charge, with reservations required.

Nature Megaphone Experience 🌲🔊

Venture inside the captivating Nature Megaphone, a concept inspired by similar installations in Estonia. Constructed by the Petoskey High School Building Trades class with donated wood from The Home Depot, this unique structure was completed in May 2019.

🔊 Using the Megaphone: Step inside, lay still, and embrace the serenity. The megaphone's design enhances the natural sounds filtering in, allowing you to immerse yourself more deeply in your surroundings.

Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve offers a serene escape along the Pigeon River, perfect for hiking, fishing, and an immersive acoustic experience with the Nature...

We enjoyed a quiet Saturday stroll on Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve in October to enjoy the fall colors. While the megaphone is the main attraction, we were amazed by the landscape and sightseen of the area. The trail goes along the Pigeon River, which offers a few lovely elevated views.

There is a non-paved parking lot that can accommodate around 8 vehicles, with a map and information to plan your route. The trails are perfectly identified with a map at each stop. As far as I could see, there were no restrooms in the area.

The trail is good to walk with kids (+5 years and older) and pets. It does offer a few mild challenges. Hiking poles are not needed but highly recommended. I look forward to revisiting this hidden gem...

One of my favorite hikes in the area Wild landscape, gorgeous river, views, some incline yet overall friendly for my little dogs, nature megaphone for some “sit and stare” time to take it all in

Stunning in April when not many leaves as the views are even better, then turns to lush green everywhere by mid June. Nice little sandy spot along river to wade and enjoy

Stop by food trucks near Northland Brewing and Wildwood Coffee downtown Indian River to round out a solid day...

Beautiful trail!! AllTrails says it’s 1.9miles and 183 elevation. There are some ups and downs but pretty easy. Love the river views and the megaphone made by Petoskey HS! All dirt roads to get to the parking lot and only parking for about six cars. Seemed a little awkward to have to walk around the back of a house to get to the bridge but it’s what u have to do :). Looks it connects to another preserve if you want more mileage.

Be sure to check out the nature megaphone! It was a windy day and a dog was barking constantly, but it was still a neat experience. The hike was about 2 miles round trip. The only downside was the people visiting with their dog running off leash (which is against the posted rules).
