Thompson's Harbor State Park is wild and rustic.
The park does not have a lot of amenities. There are several gravel roads you can follow to the Lake Huron shoreline or just enjoy driving along the scrub forest on both sides of the road.
There is a small rocky beach where you can find lots of fossil stones but with Lake Huron high water levels you may have to get wet crossing a marshy area to get to the waterline. There are lots of different flowers and butterflies in the area including Monarchs and Slippers and Swallowtails. The roads are fairly rough and some have been eroded by water running down the middle of the road.
Dwarf Lake Iris flowers and birdwatching seem to be one of the main attractions along with fishing along the shore or at the old harbor.
