If on Lanai this is a must visit. From Lanai City the drive is about 8 miles down hill on a paved road. At the bottom you will take a left and drive 3 miles on a dirt and sand mix of a road. You can see the shipwreck from the road, but keep driving to the end of the road. The hike to a good viewing spot in about 10 minutes. Hike another 10 to be closer, but not much better. Beach is a mix of sand and lava rock to cross. Lots of seabirds, crabs on the beach. Great views of Molokai, best views are the drive down. 4x4 only to this trailhead.

Great place to adventure! Awesome 4x4 drive down to the beach, but Do Not Do if it's raining, the 'roads' will become impossible to make it through, especially to the beach. It takes a bit of a walk to get closer to the shipwreck, but it's beautiful! This is a great little journey to do if you take the first ferry over, before the Lanai Cat Sanctuary opens (do not miss the opportunity to see over 600 beautiful cats!)

I'm a sucker for shipwrecks and the massive one along this beach can be seen from miles away! It was so cool hiking up to it and seeing how massive it was. The drive up to the start should be done in a jeep or something with high clearance. There are plenty of spots to sit and look out at the water and other Hawaiian islands. Great little day hike!

Shipwreck beach is named for the many ships that have wrecked or have been intentionally sunk in the channel between Lanai and Molokai. The grounded wreck that is visible is a WWII era ferro-cement navy fuel barge. Strong trade winds make the beach a rather windy place. The trade winds and big channel swells are the reason there are so many shipwrecks here. Some of the timber on the beach may be from 18th of 19th century ships. Interesting place to hike a little and look around, only a short 4 wheel drive journey down...
