This spot is easily one of the most delightful outdoor havens near Jacksboro/Caryville, and it’s just a quick ten-minute jaunt from the interstate. It’s the perfect place to stretch your legs and soak up some nature while passing through Tennessee.
The trail’s lower section is a treasure, with a stunning river that meanders through, accompanied by a series of majestic, cascading waterfalls that are a sight to behold all year round. The river and falls create numerous spots for a dip, and there’s nothing quite like the joy of lounging in the cool, refreshing waters on a hot summer day.
But that’s not all. The mountain’s summit offers an expansive overlook with breathtaking panoramic views of East Tennessee. Perched atop one of the region’s highest peaks, you’re treated to incredible, unobstructed vistas. On days when the sky is clear, you can even spot the highest points of the Smoky Mountains, offering a sense of scale that’s truly humbling.
For those looking to immerse themselves in the area, there are plenty of camping spots dotted along the trail. Little Egypt has so much to explore, and these sites make it easy to stay and experience it all.
I find myself drawn here almost every day in the summer. Whether I’m in the mood for an extensive hike or simply want to unwind by the water and swim, I always leave knowing I’ve had a fantastic day.
Take my advice and make a stop here; you won’t have any regrets. And if you happen to run into me, I’d be more than happy to show you around, point you to the various trails, and share some local history. There’s something special about accompanying newcomers as they discover the splendor of this place for the first time.
Whether you’re up for a brief stroll, an adventurous hike, a refreshing swim, or a night under the stars, this is the place to be. Come and see...
Read moreNice waterfall(s). My cycling friends and I are always looking for something new to see and this popped up. Right next to I-75 behind Cove Lake State Park, we finally determined this creek must have been rerouted away from the interstate. It passes through what appears to be a man-made chasm (from the drilling marks in the rock creating the falls). A bit further down the creek it passes through a culvert for a short distance. There'd be no reason for the culvert unless it was done to facilitate the building of the interstate. But man-made or not, its a nice sight...well worth the short walk. The walk is rather steep and rocky and not particularly well maintained. But it's manageable. Above the falls, there is a split log bridge leading to a trail to the top of the ridge. It hot steeper and more rocky. One guy went a bit further than me, but not to the top. I stopped at the bridge. It was a great destination only an hour north of Knoxville with lots of interesting little roads between...
Read moreHad a great time with some friends several days ago. I'm surely going to come back and make a day of it with my family that includes some hammocks, lunch, and creek play. The hike is decent but not too difficult at the beginning with almost instant rewards. The waterfall is beautiful and there are all sorts of great wild flowers like trillium and wild iris. The climb to the Devil's Racetrack is a pretty steep hike but it's not horrible. I'm not in fantastic shape, but it was fine. Was I out of breath? Sure but it's short and the view was worth it. Just go!! There are no bathrooms so go before you hike. The ones in the park were all locked except one and it was truly the most filthy, foul smelling park bathroom I've ever been in. I was legit gagging. Use the gas station or go in...
