Great trail! We went in August. Very safe for the first leg of the trail, so good for beginners to tool around and then turn back. My dog loved the little pond and running around in the brush. Lots of burs so bring a dog brush! And a towel for after they dive into the pond, lol. Lesson learned for us! The second I stepped out of the car I saw a fish jump in the little pond and we were there not five seconds and the kids were already running after dragonflies, frogs, chipmunks, snakes (baby garters, not dangerous), water roaches, you name it. We plan to go back with gear to pack water/food in and hike the whole thing. Great safe way to experience NE...

Great views of the South Fork of the Umatillo River Canyon. The trail runs along the edge of it. I did not hike it very far, but the views were excellent. This location is best seen in May or June when the grass is green and the wildflowers...

Lots of parking space, and some people camp in the surrounding woods. Great access to a great trail, the Umatilla Rim.

I recommend taking a visit to Umatilla Rim trail in the Umatilla National Forest in the Blue Mountains. We only made it about a mile in with my 4 year old but 10/10 recommend. Follow that up with some eats and drinks at the @TollgateCrossing #umatillanationalforest #tollgate #umatillarimtrail
