This park could be a beautiful place to spend time on the beach. I have never seen such a dirtier beach in my life. There is trash everywhere along the shore line...beer/liquor bottles etc. There are huge tangled up pieces of fishing line all over the place. As we were walking our dog in shock of the mess along the shore, we came upon a large bird who was alive but clearly dying. Not sure if the poor bird swallowed a fishing line or a hook or what. There are trashcans in the parking lot but there definitely needs to be some cans set up along the beach or an employee needs to monitor this area. I’m hoping the county will improve this location. Also, large potholes entering the park and easy to scrape up the bottom of your car if you’re not careful. Lastly, people had a cage at the park with two LIVE chickens. I’m guessing they were going to cook them there...

The views are spectacular, but the entire area was littered with diapers, beer bottles/cans, broken glass, fire pits, bags of garbage, etc. I don’t understand why, when there are half a dozen trash cans at the parking area… if you can carry it in, why not carry it out? I know there’s a yearly port tobacco river community clean up, but perhaps the park service should have a weekly...
Read moreWe stopped to see the Thomas Stone National Historic Site which was a neat place to stop (he was one of four Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence). Then we went down the road a little ways to check out Port Tobacco. We drove beyond Port Tobacco and found ourselves in this State Park which is an amazing gem well off the beaten path.
The old buildings hidden in the dense overgrowth are interesting, as is the abandoned old house hidden completely in the forest. The whole area around here is full of history and things to see and do; and the riverside beach is beautiful and peaceful - even on a foggy, misty day.
