I went to find information on Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. I discovered quite a trove of historical details on what is extremely rare. The bonus in my visit was meeting several of the many DEDICATED volunteers who keep this invaluable asset in order and USEFUL. The County Historian, Fern Eddy Schultz is a treasure of knowledge of Laporte County AND much of surrounding counties. I was met with a very positive welcome. Everyone I met was enthusiastic and worked to fulfill my mission. I asked to see every document they had on KOP, expecting they would not have much. To my joyful surprise, within 20min at most they assembled and laid out a large table covered with so many publications. All were original and in great condition preserved nicely. Each item was "tagged" with meta data that was also valuable in my mission. The museum is rich with information. I have no idea what their budget is, but these volunteers are admiral in their efforts. I hope the County values it's citizens who make history by supporting this history archive for...

Definitely a heck of a museum. I had the chance to volunteer here and I must say, this is a pretty great collection.

The museum itself is huge and has a professional feeling that most county museums fail to emulate. Despite the floor space, the museum is crammed full of stuff.

There is a vintage car collection owned by Dr. Kesling, a very large antique gun collection with some really unique and bizarre weapons, a group of period rooms demonstrating common life throughout the years, and a whole load of events that keep you coming back.

Don't be fooled. It may be a county museum, but it is far larger than any county museum ( and even some official museums) I've ever seen.

It also has a massive, well-maintained archive that is invaluable to research.

Maybe I'm biased due to my work there, but it is still a seriously impressive museum and well worth the look for locals and travellers alike. It really brings...

This is an absolutely first class museum of collections, artwork, period room settings and a top notch car collection. The building itself is gorgeous, spacious and bright. Great for all ages and interests. My favorites are the mint condition automobiles. You’ll find a Tucker, a 1964.5 Mustang, Auburns, Studebakers, Citroen, Mercedes, etc. There is also one of the most extensive and complete collections of antique firearms. Also, lots of information and artifacts on the infamous murderess, Belle Gunness! You must put it on your...

A three‑floor museum located at 2405 Indiana Ave., La Porte, IN, featuring 14 period rooms—including a pioneer cabin, Victorian parlor, schoolroom, doctor’s and dentist’s offices—plus a recreated Main Street, a research library, and collections of antique vehicles (Duesenberg, Tucker, DeLorean, etc.) and ancient weapons. Housed in a former auto museum, it has been operating in its current building since 2006 . Open Tues–Sat, 10:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Admission: ~$5 for adults, seniors $4, under-18 free. Former interns and staff have reported unexplained door‑alarm beeps, footsteps, sudden cold spots, misplaced tools, and tools vanishing only to reappear elsewhere—all inside the museum’s annex and period rooms. These accounts paint a picture of a place with subtle, unusual occurrences—some chilling, others oddly comforting. If you’re into both local history and ghost lore, it’s a fascinating (and slightly eerie) place to explore—especially in October during their Haunted Happenings. #laporteindiana #laporte #indiana #ghostlytravelswithzac #paranormal #ghosts #museum #haunted #scarystories

We stopped here just to check it out because it seemed like a cool little place to walk through. Overall, I can say we were blown away but the size of the building. It was huge. The place is very well kept with a lot of great information to read. There were so many articles from both the town and history in general. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys history. Not the greatest place for little kids. I loved the old cars and all of the guns. A must see if you are in LaPorte. You can’t beat the $5 admission price either.
