Great great views. Small, brown sign on the side of the asphalt road so don't miss that. Getting off, it's all dirt and sand for 4 miles. 1 to 5 inches of sand deep. Recommend a 4 wheel drive. If you have rwd and all terrains you should be good if you have a bit of experience. I averaged about 20 mph in the dark and 30 once it was light. Please don't bring civics or corollas here. Wouldn't bring any sedan or compact here. 4WD or all terrains. If it rained recently I wouldn't go unless you had 4wd and all terrains

One of the most unique lookouts in all of California. Literally only a five minute walk from this roundabout however driving to this roundabout takes about 15 minutes from the main road and you must be careful when driving on the dirt road not to go through the thick sand or you WILL get stuck, even if you are 4x4. However I’m pretty sure all months of the year it is possible in vehicles with 2 wheel drive IF you are cautious. Just follow tracks if the harder packed dirt

Definitely a place to visit. Only 4 miles off the pavement via a sandy road. Was overcast when we visited (A rare occasion) so probably didn't see a lot of color, however everyone in our group of three off roaders thought it was the highlight of our trip. We had brought our sandwiches and fixings with us so made ourselves comfortable and ate while we waited for the sunset. Well worth the wait.
