I recently flew down from Michigan to see my favorite band Sawyer Brown. Upon arriving picking up at will call tickets we get in to take our seats and the announcer says must remove all hats. That was number one issue I have the very same hat as Sawyer Brown and each concert I go to he seeks to see me and without the Hat on he will not see me. Then at intermission we decide that we aren't going to sit in our seats because we like to dance and jump around and rather than interrupt the older generation sitting around us we chose to stand in the back. This snarky woman comes up and says do you have seats and I said yes and we are not sitting in them why and proceeded to tell her that we like to jump and dance around while they're playing, and this way we do not interrupt anyone. That seemed to appease her for the minute. Then she proceeds to ask my partner to not clap so loud in the person's ear we were a good 5 ft away from any person that might have heard the clap. Then they were in between songs and my partner ask a question and she came over again and said made these gestures with her hands like we were yacking too much and said "no more talking" OMG it was in between songs it was not interrupting anyone and this beotch is trying to act superior & ruining "our" experience. There was another woman working to the side of her and at the end of the concert she said to my partner that you must be tired with all that jumping around so it didn't bother her why did that other woman (" I say that loosely") have to be so authoritative and get herself a big head.
We had tickets for both shows but due to an unforeseen situation we could only make the last show and that last show will be our very last show of going to Orange Blossom Opry. This interaction has really ruined it for us ever returning to that venue so be careful on what you go to see. It was wonderful seeing Bobby being part of the house band as he used to sing and play with Sawyer Brown and it was good to see him on stage with them again. However, I am no longer interested in receiving emails about upcoming shows to that venue. We're all out to have a good time and she actually ruined our...
Read moreI must say. I was a bit apprehensive about this place. I read reviews from lowest to highest. A lot of the reviews stated that this venue was very church/cafeteria like. I found that that was wrong. Hoot and holler for your band all you want. You can take pictures but don't record. Fair enough.
So, the opening band was pretty stale. The 'lead' singer kept stating that they were a country band playing Blues. I felt that they didn't respect the Blues and, if they were country, why didn't they play country? If this is the house band, the owners should get a new one. The lead singer played harmonica. He had 3 harmonicas and couldn't pick the correct one for the songs be8ng played. The fact that he had these 3 harmonicas sitting loosely on the floor leads me to believe that he isnt a serious harmonica player. I can actually say that he isn't because, his tone was bad. I am sorry for my criticism but, I have been in the blues world since 2000.
Let's move on to the main show..DESOTO TIGER's TESTIMONY. What a breath of fresh Blues. Jason Ricci is a beast on the harmonica, the house band could take some lessons...the guitar players both, we're just amazing. The drummer was fantastic and the bass player was killer. This is a well put together band and i would come see them any day of the week. The house band,...
Read moreSaw the George Trullinger show. Many of the jokes were off color, making them inappropriate if young children are in audience. We didn’t appreciate them either. We’ve enjoyed many performances here over the last three years, the latest being Little Texas. But last night’s Trullinger performance was not our favorite. Also, the volunteers at The Opry take their unpaid positions a little too seriously. One, upon entering the theater I was scalded by an older volunteer monitoring Section 1 for walking through the isle. My seat was in the aisle I was walking though! Not sure how else to get to the seats! Second, I ALWAYS carry water with me and had a half full one in my bag. We’ve purchased water and most times food too when seeing performances here. Last night during the intermission, while I was in the restroom, a female volunteer with a headset on, came up to my husband and confiscated the water bottle and totally humiliated him with other people sitting/standing around, because he had a bottle of water not purchased from The Opry. The tone definitely needs to be softened by the volunteers. The woman with the headset, kept coming up and checking aisles during the performance like she was CIA. It’s Weirsdale people…. Not the...
